Women rights activists slam Shiv Sena over rape editorial

Bangalore/ New Delhi, Aug 2 (ANI): Women rights activists hit out at Shiv Sena on Saturday as it termed reporting of rape cases a new fashion in its mouthpiece the ___Saamna___. Referring to a recent rape allegation against a senior police officer in Mumbai, Saamna editorial questioned the trend of women allegedly filing false complaints of rape, asking, ___has it become a fashion to file rape charges and create a sensation?_ A model has filed a rape case against deputy inspector general (DIG) of Mumbai police, Sunil Paraskar. Congress Party sought Shiv Sena___s apology over the insensitive remark. Delhi Commission for Women (DCW) chief, Barkha Singh Shukla, also condemned the editorial.

PMO asks all govt departments to allow self attestation of documents

New Delhi, Aug 02 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi has, through a statement issued from his office, reportedly asked all government departments to allow self-certification/ attestation of documents and to reduce the use of affidavits in a bid to ease the hassles faced by the common man. All ministries and departments at the Centre and in States have reportedly been asked to make a provision for the self-certification of documents in place of affidavits.

Mixed reactions flow as CAG report on Delhi raps former government

New Delhi, Aug (ANI): Political leaders on Saturday gave mixed reactions after the CAG report on Delhi indicated that the former Sheila Dixit government failed to provide basic amenities. AAP leader Prashant Bhushan said that AAP MPs will raise the issue in Parliament. BJP's Vijay Goel also slammed the former Congress led state government. Meanwhile, Congress leader Shakeel Ahmed stated that focus should be turned towards Gujarat Vidhan Sabha report which clearly stated that Modi as a CM had benefitted Reliance and Adani. The Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India has indicted a number of Delhi government departments for wasteful expenditure, stuck infrastructure and social security projects, besides ignoring key environmental issues.

Mumbai, Aug 02 (ANI): Shiv Sena Leader Sanjay Raut on Saturday gave clarifications over the "Saamna" article which it supported rape accused DIG Sunil Paraskar. Shiv Sena mouthpiece "Saamna" known for blunt comments came out in support Paraskar saying that the allegations against him are motivated. It also said that accusing men of rape is a trend. Speaking to mediapersons in Mumbai, Raut said that Shiv Sena never supports people who don't respect women. He said the article says that the case should be investigated properly before coming to any conclusion.

Maneka Gandhi's special provisions in Juvenile Justice Act get welcome gesture

New Delhi, Aug 02 (ANI): Women and Child Development Minister Maneka Gandhi gets a welcome step by the leaders as well as social activists equally on Saturday. Gandhi informed the parliament that the government is planning special provisions in the current Juvenile Justice Act to address heinous offences committed by children above the age of 16 years. The move was aimed to act as a deterrent for child offenders committing such crimes and will also protect the rights of the victim, she said in reply to a question in the Lok Sabha, a day before.

Politicos react as Kanpur policeman kisses Jyoti murder case accused on forehead

New Delhi/ Lucknow, Aug 2 (ANI): A senior police official probing the murder of Jyoti, daughter-in-law of a leading businessman of Uttar Pradesh, was taken off the investigation on Friday after he kissed the main accused, the woman's husband, on the forehead. In the presence of media in Swaroop Nagar police station, Circle Officer (CO) R K Naik asked Piyush Shyam Dasani whether he would mend his ways. To this, Dasani replied in the affirmative. NSUI members protest over CSAT exam outside Rajnath Singhs residence

New Delhi, Aug 02 (ANI): Members of the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) on Saturday staged protest outside Home Minister Rajnath Singh's residence in the national capital over the Union Public Service Commission CSAT examination row. The protesters shouted slogans against Singh and also demanded his resignation. The agitated protesters were later detained by the police and were ruthlessly taken away in a bus and were also beaten up. Earlier, in a setback to the struggling UPSC aspirants, the Arvind Verma committee report submitted to the government has recommended that no change should be made in the CSAT as it is a scientifically formed exam and shouldn't be tinkered with.
