Traders in Kashmir demand boost in cross-border trade with Pakistan

Poonch, Aug 30 (ANI): Traders in Jammu and Kashmir called for increase in cross-border trade between New Delhi and Islamabad. At present, the cross-border trade stands at 850 crore rupees. The two nuclear-armed countries have fought two wars over Kashmir but had sought to ease access and commerce in a region at the heart of more than 60 years of hostility. An approved list of items is traded between both the countries. At present, this list includes 21 items but traders are looking to raise the number of products. The most widely exported crops from the Indian side are bananas, red chili, cumin and tamarind while imports from the Pakistani side include dry fruit and mangoes. Both sides hope closer integration of Pakistan with India's giant economy would help lay the ground for a lowering of political tensions between them.
