Abhinav Bindra, Sanjeev Rajput, Ravi Kumar bagged team bronze for India in 10m air rifle event. Bindra confirmed yesterday his decision to call time on his professional shooting career and that Day 4 at the Asian Games would be his last day as an India shooter.

US, partner nations launch first strikes in Syria: Pentagon

New Delhi, Sept 23 (ANI): The United States and partner nations are carrying out the first air strikes against Islamic State targets in Syria, the Pentagon said, in ongoing operations that mark the opening of a new, far more complicated front in battle against the militants. Rear Admiral John Kirby, Pentagon press secretary on his Twitter page said: "US military and partner nation forces have begun striking ISIL targets in Syria using mix of fighters, bombers and Tomahawk missiles."I can confirm that U.S. military and partner nation forces are undertaking military action against ISIL terrorists in Syria using a mix of fighter, bomber and Tomahawk Land Attack Missiles," Kirby said in a statement. "Given that these operations are ongoing, we are not in a position to provide additional details at this time."

India collaborates with Sweden promoting environmentally sustainable transport

Bangalore, Sept 23 (ANI): India collaborates with Sweden on promoting environmentally sustainable transport (EST) which will lead to accomplish safe, reliable, affordable, efficient, people-centric and environment friendly transport system. Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah inaugurated the workshop on "the way to sustainable transport: an Indo-Swedish perspective". Swedish Envoy to India Harald Sandberg and senior advisor to Sweden trade minister, Ambassador Jonas Hafstrom, were also present at the event in the country's IT hub of Bangalore. The aim of their visit is to identify areas within transport and urban planning with potential for further collaboration between the two countries. Calling for best practices and planning for transforming Indian cities and towns safe for all, Siddaramaiah said the workshop will foster economical, social and environmental developments. The visit by the transport delegation from Sweden is a reciprocal visit to strengthen the bilateral relation between Sweden and India and aims to integrate developing countries in the world economy and contribute in the eradication of poverty.

Benefactor gifts boats to children who earlier swam to school in Gujarat

Chhota Udepur, Sep 23 (ANI): A Non-Resident Indian (NRI) couple gifted an inflatable boat to children in Gujarat to help them cross the river instead of having to swim across, as they usually did so far. Due to the damaged bridge in Gujarat's Chhota Udepur district, the school kids were compelled to risk their lives and swim across the river, holding on to a brass pot as floating aid. NRI, Virendra Bhalla said that he read about the ordeal of the school kids in an Indian daily. A trial boat sail was conducted where a bright orange life-jacket was fastened over a fluorescent yellow raincoat to the children who used the rubber motor boat to cross river Hiran and reached school. A school girl, Twinkle said that it was a great feeling sitting in dry clothes in the classroom.
