One dead, six injured in fresh firing from Pakistan

Jammu and Kashmir, Oct 8 (ANI): One civilian has lost his life while six others are injured as the Pakistan rangers target civilian habitations in Jammu and Kashmir. Thousands of people living on the international border have also stated to migrate to safer place as the Pakistan rangers last night again resorted to unprovoked mortar shelling and heavy firing on the BSF posts.According to BSF, over 50 BSF posts and nearly 30 border villages were affected by the fire from Pakistan side that restored at 8.30 pm last night. As the firing at some places in Arnia still continues, our forces have been retaliating and BSF troops at all the places are giving befitted reply to the fire from Pakistan. Last night at least one BSF jawan along with some civilians also got injured.

Ready to put best foot forward at Indian Super League, says Czech soccer player

Mumbai, Oct 8 (ANI): Defender of Mumbai City Football Club (FC), Pavel Cmovs, said on Tuesday (October 07) his team is well prepared and confident to put up a good show at the Indian Super League (ISL), which starts October 12. The Mumbai FC team played a friendly match with the football club of Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) on Tuesday in Mumbai, winning the match 2-1. Bollywood star Ranbir Kapoor, who is also the co-owner of Mumbai City FC, was also present to watch the friendly match. The players said they are hopeful the ISL will raise the bar of football in the country.

Indian envoy reviews progress of joint projects with Bangladesh

Agartala, Oct 8 (ANI): India's Deputy High Commissioner in Dhaka, Sandeep Chakravorty reviewed the progress of a couple of collaborative projects between India and Bangladesh during his three-day visit to Tripura. Chakravorty after meeting Tripura Power Minister Manik Dey said work to supply 100 MW power from Tripura's Palatana power project to Bangladesh is progressing fast. Chakravorty, during his visit to Tripura, will find the status of various India-Bangladesh projects and meet ministers and top officials of the state to take note of the ground reality. The Indian envoy also added the Agartala-Akhaura rail link is in an advance stage of preparation.

Indian Air Force celebrates its 82nd anniversary

Ghaziabad, Oct 8 (ANI): Indian Air Force is today celebrating its 82th anniversary. Chief of Indian Air Force, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha said that the IAF's journey of 82 years has witnessed many historic moments and it has emerged as one of the most formidable and respected air forces of the world. To mark the occasion there will be air displaying of various aircrafts as a part of the Air Force Day Parade cum Investiture Ceremony at Air Force Station here. Retired Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, is also seen in attendance. He is the first sportsperson to be made the honourary Group Captain in the Indian Air Force.

DA case: Jayalalithaa likely to move SC on bail plea

New Delhi, Oct 8 (ANI): Former Tamil Nadu chief minister J. Jayalalithaa and three other accused in an 18-year-old Rs. 66 crore disproportionate assets case, are likely to move the Supreme Court on Wednesday, challenging the Karnataka High Court's order to refuse bail to them. The Karnataka High Court rejected the bail pleas of the four accused on Tuesday, observing that corruption amounts to a violation of human rights. The judge quoted various cases of the Supreme Court under Prevention of Corruption Act and pronounced that there is no ground for giving bail to the accused convicts in this case. The court not only refused to grant of bail, but also declined to stay the sentence of four-year imprisonment and Rs 100 crore penalty imposed on her in the case.

JD (U) chief slams Modi government for failing to deliver poll promises

Dhule /New Delhi, Oct 8 (ANI): Janata Dal-United Chief Sharad Yadav, lashed out at the ruling BJP government for failing to deliver the promises it made before coming to power in May. Taking a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Yadav said he did not leave a single opportunity to deliver a speech. Supporting the Public Sector Undertakings (PSU), Yadav also criticised government's decision to disinvest stake in some leading PSUs. He said this decision has been wrongly-timed and the prices of the shares of these PSUs have started falling since then. JD-U chief suggested that government can make enough profit only by selling the shares of certain blue chip companies like ITC, Axis Bank and Larsen and Toubro.

Indian pugilists train in Shimla's high altitude to adapt to rough climatic conditions

Shimla, Oct 08 (ANI): Forty eight Indian pugilists from Madhya Pradesh undertook training in an 18-day high altitude boxing camp in Shimla city to get acclimatized to low weather conditions and increase their stamina. The camp started on September 22 and will conclude on October 9.He also said that the camp will make them stronger and increase their level of play. Out of the total of 48 boxers, eight are international level players and 15 are national champions. The coach added that such high altitude camps help players in improving their game and should be made mandatory for everyone.
