Myanmar, Nov 12 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday met Nobel Laureate Aung San Suu Kyi among other leaders on the sidelines of the ASEAN and East Asian summits in Myanmar in his first interaction with the pro-democracy icon. Myanmar is one of India's most important neighbours, both for security and as a gateway to Southeast Asia. Modi left for Myanmar on November 11 on the first leg of his three-nation ten-day visit that will also take him to Australia and Fiji.

Maharashtra Governor heckled by Shiv Sena, Congress MLAs over voice

Don't do politics: Chhattisgarh Health Min tells Congress on Bilaspur incident

Raipur, Nov 12 (ANI): Chhattisgarh Health Minister Amar Agarwal on Wednesday said that Congress should not politicize the Bilaspur incident after the Congress party demanded his resignation over the Chhattisgarh sterilisation tragedy. He added that the priority is to give proper treatment to those admitted in the hospital. He further said that initial investigations have revealed the carelessness on the part of the doctor and criminal case has been lodged against him.

Candidates go on rampage after cancellation of army recruitment rally in Madhya Pradesh

Gwalior, Nov 12 (ANI): Candidates at an army recruitment camp in Madhya Pradesh on Wednesday went on rampage, attacked police, vandalised railway station and shops and set vehicles ablaze, alleging irregularities in the selection process. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Santosh Singh, in Gwalior said that management was not able to handle the huge crowd of candidates, following which they cancelled the recruitment process.According to reports, at least six people sustained injury in a stampede following violence by candidates.

Arun Jaitley stresses on need for meaningful employment at second edition of Services Conclave

New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Wednesday (November 12) stressed on the need for creation of jobs in the services and manufacturing sector in order to provide meaningful employment to the under-employed population. Jaitley was speaking at the second edition of Services Conclave in New Delhi. He also laid emphasis on services sector exports to compensate for the deficit in the merchandise exports. Commerce and Industry Minister Nirmala Sitharaman was also present at the event. Citing India's global expertise in the field of Information Technology (IT), Jaitley said this success had to be replicated in some other sectors too. He went on to add that in the healthcare sector India has just begun to make its presence feel and the global traffic has already begun to swing towards the country.

PSU bank employees go on nationwide strike over wage revision demand

Bhopal/ Kanpur/ Lucknow/ New Delhi, Nov 12 (ANI): Public sector banks across India called for a day long nationwide strike on Wednesday demanding the long pending increment in the employees' wages. The strike has been called under the banner of an umbrella organisation of banks, United Forum of Bank Union. According to the media reports, much against the 23 per cent wage hike demand by the bank employees, Indian Banks' Association offered an increment of 11 per cent, which led unions to call for a strike. The protesters in New Delhi assembled outside various banks and shouted slogans demanding a revision in their salaries. Expressing resentment, an employee of National Organisation of Bank Workers, Ashwini, said around nine bank unions, 800,000 bank employees and more than 50,000 branches are on strike. The employees have been awaiting their salary revision since November 2012 but are yet to hear an official announcement from the government. Meanwhile in Kanpur city, bank union leader Pradeep Vajpayee said the conditions in which bank employees work are deteriorating.

Death of women at sterilisation camp in Chhattisgarh sparks protest

Raipur, Nov 12 (ANI): Hundreds of protesters took to streets in Raipur city of Chhattisgarh on Wednesday (November 12), demanding immediate action against Chief Minister Raman Singh and the state health minister for the death of women at a sterilisation camp. The protesters smashed vehicles and stopped them from plying on roads. They also entered the schools and destroyed property there. The angry protesters demanded that an FIR (First Information Report) be filed against Singh and the junior health minister, Amar Agarwal. Ten women died and 14 were in a serious condition after botched operations at a government mass sterilization "camp" in Bilaspur district. The women fell ill on Monday (November 10), two days after surgery at a family planning camp at a village.

Congress, Shiv Sena allege proper procedure not followed during trust vote

Mumbai, Nov 12 (ANI): After BJP came out clear with trust vote in Maharashtra Assembly, Congress and Shiv Sena alleged that proper procedure was not followed during trust vote at the assembly. The President of Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) Manikrao Thakre said that the BJP speaker was biased and did not follow proper procedure for voting. Former Maharashtra CM and Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan said that it was a black day in democracy of Maharashtra. Meanwhile, Shiv Sena leader Ramdas Kadam said that BJP did not carry out trust vote as it was scared and added that Congress and Shiv Sena will go and complain to the Governor of Maharashtra to not allow BJP to continue their government.
