Defence Minister says Chinese intrusions not that serious

Panaji, Nov 13 (ANI): The newly-appointed Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar, said that Chinese intrusions were not that serious and the government was dealing with them on a daily basis. While answering a question on Chinese incursions in a news briefing in Goa, Parrikar said that India needed to step up its defence capabilities in next three years. Small incursions are common across the Line of Actual Control (LAC), the de facto border that runs across the Himalayas, but it is rare for either country to set up camp so deep within disputed territory. Parrikar said all purchases regarding weapons, which are immediately required, would be fast-tracked and would invite the Indian companies keeping in mind the 'Make in India' initiative.

PM Modi meets Russian counterpart on East Asia Summit sidelines in Myanmar

Nay Pyi Taw, Nov 13 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi met his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev on the sidelines of the ongoing East Asia Summit 2014 in Myanmar's capital Naypyitaw. "I am glad to meet you. Earlier, Russia's former Prime Minister had come to India. We had a very nice discussion on various issues, and now, we are waiting for Russian President Vladimir Putin to visit the country on December 11. People in India are very excited to welcome him," Prime Minister Modi told Prime Minister Medvedev. He added that he was waiting that on December 11 India will be able to attain new heights in terms of relationship with Russia. Prime Minister Modi is in Myanmar as part of his 10-day trip to three nations, the other two being Australia and Fiji. On Wednesday, he interacted with the leaders of the Association of South East Asian Nations (ASEAN) countries. Prime Minister Modi will also participate in the G-20 Summit in Brisbane.

AIBA says future bleak for Boxer Sarita Devi, Reactions flow

New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): L Sarita Devi's amateur boxing career could be finished after her "unacceptable" behaviour at the Incheon Asian Games where the fighter refused to accept her bronze medal on the podium, said the president of the governing AIBA. Sarita was furious after losing her semi-final to local favourite Park Ji-na in the women's lightweight division. She refused to wear the medal when it was presented to her, taking it only in her hand before trying to drape it over Park. When the presentation was over, Sarita left the medal behind, despite being told to take it with her. Meanwhile, former Indian Sports Minister, MS Gill, said that it was very unfortunate and athletes should respect the judgement. Former athlete, Sunita Godara, said Devi's behaviour was against sportsmanship and AIBA would not take it lightly.

CRPF prepares for worst case scenario in Kashmir polls

New Delhi, Nov 13 (ANI): Director General of India's paramilitary Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) Dilip Trivedi, said that the security personnel were prepared for worst case scenario for upcoming elections in Jammu and Kashmir. The assembly polls in JandK will be held in five-phases, beginning on November 25 and ending on December 20. The counting of votes will take place on December 23. While addressing a news briefing in New Delhi, Trivedi said that there could be a high level attempt to disrupt elections and troops were briefed on the same. Trivedi further said that as compared to the previous elections held in the state, the force anticipated the upcoming elections to be more difficult. Trivedi also spoke about preparedness for assembly polls in Jharkhand which goes to polls simultaneously with Kashmir.

Lack of basic facilities disappoint participants of Horse fair in Shimla

Shimla, Nov 13 (ANI): Traders flocking to Himachal Pradesh to participate in the horse fair with the finest variety of thorough bred Chamurthi horses, aired their disappointment over the lack of basic facilities available for them and their precious animals. The three-day horse fair in Shimla town attracted horse owners and businessmen from the neighbouring states of Uttarakhand, Punjab, Haryana and Uttar Pradesh. Unfortunately, they were unhappy with the authorities for not providing even the basic facilities. Meanwhile, a horse owner Rinzin Angchuk said that it was rather unusual that there was no provision of even food and water for the animals. A horse race was also organised during the International Trade Fair called 'Lavi' which attracted thousands of spectators.
