PM Modi pays tribute to BR Ambedkar on 'Mahaparinirwan Diwas'

New Delhi, Dec 06 (ANI): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tributes to Dr.BR Ambedkar on his Mahaparinirvana Diwas. PM Modi paid floral tributes to Ambedkar outside the Parliament where a event is organized in respect and memory of the architect of the Indian Constitution. President Pranab Mukherjee along with Vice President Hamid Ansari also offered flowers to the statue of Ambedkar. Present at the occasion was also senior BJP leader LK Advani, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh among others. Earlier, PM Modi tweeted saying, "On his Mahaparinirvana Diwas, I bow to the venerable Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar. His contribution to the Nation is eternal and invaluable. Dr. Ambedkar was a man ahead of his time. We remember his efforts to eradicate social evils and the importance he gave to education."

India terms Hafiz Saeed's rally in Pakistan as mainstreaming of terrorism

New Delhi, Dec 06 (ANI): India termed Mumbai attacks mastermind and Islamist Hafiz Saeed's rally in Pakistan's Lahore as mainstreaming of militancy.' Foreign Ministry Spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin while addressing mediapersons in New Delhi said that large amount of police personnel were deployed at the event. Akbaruddin said "even train services were given" in a reference to reports that Pakistan Railways operated trains from Hyderabad in the Sindh province and from Karachi for the meet. Thousands attended the two-day congregation organised by Saeed's Jaamat-ud-Dawa at the historical Minar-e-Pakistan in Lahore. Saeed is the founder of Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), a militant group banned in Pakistan but tolerated unofficially and believed to be close to the army. Saeed founded the LeT, which India blames for the rampage in Mumbai, in the 1990s. He has denied involvement in any attacks.

Search for missing Indians in war torn Iraq still on, will leave no stones unturned: Sushma Swaraj

New Delhi, Dec 06 (ANI): Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj said that search for missing Indian workers in war-torn Iraq was still on, and also assured families of victims that India will leave no stone unturned to find their loved ones. Swaraj had told parliament on November 28 that 39 abducted construction workers in Iraq were alive, on the basis of information from six of the sources, thus contradicting eyewitness' account which said that they were shot dead. Most of the abducted workers belong to Punjab.

Bangladesh an independent and sovereign country: PM Sheikh Hasina

Dhaka, Dec 06 (ANI): Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina termed Bangladesh as an independent and sovereign nation and said that her country will still rise even if no one stands by it. Addressing the journalists during her three-day visit to Malaysia, Hasina called Bangladesh as a self-sufficient nation. Last month at the 18th South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) summit in Nepal, Hasina called for deeper cooperation from member nations to achieve her target of a developed nation by 2041. Meanwhile, Bangladesh PM also said that if her party would have not come to power then conducting war crimes trials was not possible. The war crimes tribunals have angered Islamists who call them a politically motivated attempt by Prime Minister Hasina to persecute the leadership of Jamaat-e-Islami, a key part of the opposition coalition.

Arunachal hosts festival to promote adventure tourism

Aruncahal Pradesh, Dec 5 (ANI): Mechuka in West Siang district of Aruncahal Pradesh is one of the most picturesque destinations in the Northeast. Efforts are high to make it a popular destination for adventurers. Recently, the second edition of adventure festival 'Mechuka 2014', was held with participation from tourists from across the country. The three-day mega event featured various adventurous activities like trap shooting, mountain biking, para gliding, rappelling, archery, rafting and kayaking. Besides adventure and sports activities, cultural performances of various communities mesmerized the visitors. Ethnic cuisine, handicrafts and traditional attire were also displayed.
