Sachin Tendulkar flags off run in Kerala ahead of National Games

Thiruvananthapuram, Jan 20 (ANI): Cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar participated in mass 'Run Kerala Run', which was held as a prelude to the 35th National Games, in Thiruvananthapuram city on Tuesday (January 20). Tendulkar, who is also the brand ambassador of the Games, thronged god's own country to flag off the event. Kerala Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Governor P Sathasivam were also present. The race, endorsed by all political parties and social organisations, besides schools and colleges, would give a final push to the games preparations, creating excitement among the people to become part of the event being hosted by the state after 1987. New Delhi, Jan 20 (ANI): India is home to 70 percent of the world's tigers as per latest 2014 census, said Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Tuesday (January 20). Tigers have long been bordering extinction as they face the dangers of poaching, killings and habitat loss despite government conservation efforts. The World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) says that the world has lost 97 percent of its tiger population in over a century. India has been struggling to keep its tiger population intact being one of the few countries where the species is found. Javadekar added that building new tiger reserves was on the government's agenda. He also said that though man-animal conflict had reduced, the government would be active in reducing the risks further. Surat chemical godown catches fire

Surat, Jan 20 (ANI): A massive fire broke out at the Mahalaxmi Industrial Godown in the Pandesara area of Surat on Tuesday. The chemical godown, which caught fire at around 10 am, had oil supplies used in textile looms and gas cylinders. As per reports, the reason for the fire was a short circuit. Four cylinders in the godown also exploded due to the fire. More than two dozen fire tenders rushed to the spot and were attempting to douse the flames. Further details are awaited. Jan 20, 2015

Modi also met ambassador of South Korea Joon-Gyu-Lee. Posco's $12 billion steel plant in eastern Odisha state is the largest single foreign direct investment (FDI) project in India. POSCO officials say the company came to India to have a strong base in an emerging economy as its presence in China was below expectations. Poonch, Jan 20 (ANI): Army officials and local residents in Jammu and Kashmir took up the ambitious cleanliness drive. Army personnel and civilians swept streets and gathered garbage along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district as a part of 'Clean India' mission, or 'Swachh Bharat Abhiyan'. Army officials of the Nangi Tekri Battalion along with the civilians participated in the campaign and swept a three-kilometre stretch. Meanwhile, another resident Pashuram said that the mission should be held once in a month. India's burgeoning towns and cities are littered with garbage, the result of massive urban migration, poor civic planning and inadequate waste disposal systems, and rivers and lakes are polluted with sewage and industrial effluents.
