Gas pipeline leak causes fire in Mumbai colony

Mumbai, Nov 13 (ANI): Residents of a colony in Mumbai woke up to a fire, early morning on Thursday. The fire, which broke out in the Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL) colony, one belonging to the state-run oil marketing company, was due to a leak in a gas pipeline. As per media reports, eight fire engines were rushed to the spot. No injuries have been reported so far. Fire safety regulations are lax, rarely implemented and not periodically reviewed in most places across India, which results in the breaking of major fire, resulting in loss of life and material. Sopore, Nov 13 (ANI): The family members of the youths who were killed in a fake encounter in Machil sector of Jammu and Kashmir, expressed satisfaction after the army on Thursday convicted seven men, including two officers and five soldiers, for their involvement in the case. In the 2010 Machil fake encounter case, three youths - Mohamad Shafi, Shehzad Ahmed and Riyaz Ahmed, were killed after being lured for jobs in Jammu and Kashmir, according to Ministry of Defence (MOD) sources. All the service benefits of the seven convicted armymen have also been suspended reportedly. Bilaspur/ Raipur, Nov 13 (ANI): Doctor RK Gupta, who conducted sterilization surgeries on 85 women in Chhattisgarh's Bilaspur District, has been taken into custody. Gupta had been suspended on Tuesday on the orders of Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Raman Singh after the incident came to light. Earlier it was reported that the death toll in the sterilization tragedy rose to 13 with the death of another woman. More than 50 women, who were left in a critical state after undergoing sterilization operations, are undergoing treatment at four different hospitals in Bilaspur.
