Storm kills one, displaces thousands in West Bengal

South Dinajpur, Feb 27 (ANI): A powerful storm flattened thatched houses and uprooted trees and electric poles in several villages in West Bengal. The storm accompanied by heavy rains hit Balurhat block of South Dinajpur. A man named Jatha Tudu, (35), resident of Vatpara village, died while several others got injured. An affected villager, Kamal Hasti, of Jalghar village said that they were inside their houses when the storm hit. Thousands of thatched houses were blown over in the powerful storm rendering more than 5,000 villagers of Jalghar and Vatpara homeless. The local administration has begun rescue operations. Daily necessary items are being distributed in the region.

De Villiers smacks fastest 150 in ODI history during Windies blitzkrieg

New Delhi, Feb 27 (ANI): South African swashbuckling skipper AB de Villiers ripped up the record books again as he smacked the fastest 150 runs in ODIs, off just 64 balls against the West Indies during their World Cup Pool B tie in Sydney. De Villiers surpassed the previous quickest set by Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, who reached this figure in 83 deliveries against Bangladesh at Mirpur in 2011. De Villiers also smashed the second fastest World Cup century off 52 balls in the match. He remained unbeaten on 162 as he steered his side to post a mammoth total of 408 runs.

Japanese delegation meets Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi to boost business ties

New Delhi, Feb 27 (ANI): A Japanese delegation led by the chief executive officer (CEO) of Japanese multinational company Hitachi limited, Hiroaki Nakanishi, met Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu in New Delhi on Friday to boost business ties between the two nations. Army distributes free textbooks to flood-affected children in Kashmir

Srinagar, Feb 27 (ANI): Indian army distributed free textbooks to children, hit hard by last year’s devastating floods, in Jammu and Kashmir. The initiative is part of ‘Operation Sadbhavana’ of Indian army under which it has been helping people in the areas of education, health care, community development, among others. More than 200 sets of books of class IX and X were distributed among the children at a function in state’s summer capital Srinagar. Students also thanked the army for its noble gesture.
