A coach of the Bandra LTT-Madurai Express got derailed early on Friday in Maharashtra, throwing the intercity services on the busy Mumbai-Pune sector out of gear, an official said. The incident occurred around 2.45 a.m. when a seater-cum-luggage coach got off the tracks while entering the Khandala station in Pune district. No casualties were reported and the train left for its onward journey around 6 a.m. after detaching the affected coach, said a Central Railway spokesperson.

Part of a Road Over Bridge (ROB) collapsed in Mumbai's Andheri West during early morning hours on Tuesday, injuring two people in the incident. The Gokhale bridge, that connects Andheri East and Andheri West, collapsed on the tracks near Andheri Station. The Lord Venkateshwara Tirupati Balaji Temple was opened in the Hindu holy town of Kurukshetra in Haryana on Sunday. The temple, under the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) Trust, Kurukshetra, was opened to public by Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in Kurukshetra, around 110 km from here. Khattar said that the temple would become a hub of visitors as devotees, especially from north India, would not be required to go to Tirupati (Andhra Pradesh) for worshipping Lord Venkateshwara. Built near Kurukshetra's famous Brahma Sarovar and spread over 5.52 acres of land, the temple is the biggest in north India, he said. An amount of about Rs 34 crore would be spent on the construction of this project, out of which Rs 18 crore has already been spent.

The students were a part of a team of the 'Mission Shaurya' initiative of the Adivasi Vikas Vibhag of the Maharashtra government. Five students out of the group of 10 had successfully scaled the world's highest peak in May. The students shared their experiences during the training and ascent of Mt. Everest. The Prime Minister congratulated the students on their achievements. Felicitating the students, he exhorted them to take up a sports and pursue it regularly. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis was also present on the occasion.

Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar himself rode a motorcycle to inspect development works at the Karan Stadium in the state's Karnal town on Friday. Khattar reached the sports stadium in Karnal, nearly 125 km from here for a surprise inspection of development works of the football ground, synthetic track and grass being carried out at the cost of about Rs 7 crore and directed the officers concerned to ensure its timely completion. Work of the synthetic track and football ground would be completed by November 2018 against the scheduled completion deadline of December 2019, a spokesman said here.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday claimed his government has proposed and approved more numbers of All India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the past four years than there had been in the last 70 years. Modi was speaking at the AIIMS here. He inaugurated a tunnel connecting the main building to its trauma facility. The one-km long motorable tunnel will facilitate the transfer of the patients and their relatives, doctors, instruments and medicine between AIIMS, Ansari Nagar and Trauma Centre.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday offered floral tributes at the 'samadhi' and 'mazaar' of the 15th-century saint Kabir Das at Maghar in Sant Kabir Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh. Modi became the first Prime Minister to visit Maghar, where the mystic poet and saint breathed his last in 1518. Dressed in white kurta and choodidaar payjama, the Prime Minister was flanked by the saffron-robed Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Aditytanath and priests at the shrine as he took a round of the place. He was gifted a 'angawastra' and some literature on the saint. Officials present with the Chief Minister told IANS that Modi took keen interest in knowing the details of Maghar even as he surprised many with his in-depth knowledge of the saint who is revered equally by Hindus and Muslims.

At least five persons including a pedestrian were killed when a small chartered plane crashed in the thickly populated suburb of Ghatkopar in north-east Mumbai, officials said. Eyewitnesses said the plane was seen hurtling down and crashed with a deafening roar before bursting into flames around 1.15 p.m. There were four people on board. Rescue officials who rushed to site said four bodies, whose identity was not clear, had been recovered from the smoking plane's wreckage. A passerby in the vicinity of the crash was burnt fatally when some burning fuel from the aircraft fell on him, said an eyewitness who was among the first to reach the spot.
