Essar French cruise controversy: Gadkari denies travelling on Essar's money

Mumbai, Feb 27 (ANI): Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday admitted that he had taken a chopper ride from French city Nice to Riviera waterfront for the yacht cruise during a trip he had made in 2013. He added that he was not a minister, MP or MLA during that time and that he had paid from the entire trip from his "family account". People expect cheaper food, tax reforms from annual budget

Panaji/Dharamsala, Feb 28 (ANI): Indian citizens hope food and healthcare will be cheaper and tax reforms will be made in the annual budget 2015-16 to be released on Saturday. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley will present his first full-year budget, seeking to put Asia's third-largest economy on a path of 7-8 percent growth over the next two years. The 2015-16 budget is billed as a "make-or-break" event for Prime Minister Narendra Modi's eight-month-old government. The 2015/16 budget is expected to give a big push to Modi's 'Make in India' campaign, with tax breaks and other incentives for several sectors. Jaitley has promised to implement a nationwide Goods and Services Tax (GST) from April 1, 2016. He introduced a bill in Parliament in December to rationalise state and central indirect taxes into a harmonised sales tax. New Delhi, Feb 27 (ANI): South African swashbuckling skipper AB de Villiers ripped up the record books again as he smacked the fastest 150 runs in ODIs, off just 64 balls against the West Indies during their World Cup Pool B tie in Sydney. De Villiers surpassed the previous quickest set by Australian all-rounder Shane Watson, who reached this figure in 83 deliveries against Bangladesh at Mirpur in 2011. Storm kills one, displaces thousands in West Bengal

South Dinajpur, Feb 27 (ANI): A powerful storm flattened thatched houses and uprooted trees and electric poles in several villages in West Bengal. The storm accompanied by heavy rains hit Balurhat block of South Dinajpur. A man named Jatha Tudu, (35), resident of Vatpara village, died while several others got injured. An affected villager, Kamal Hasti, of Jalghar village said that they were inside their houses when the storm hit. Thousands of thatched houses were blown over in the powerful storm rendering more than 5,000 villagers of Jalghar and Vatpara homeless. The local administration has begun rescue operations. ATM van looted in Lucknow, Three dead

Lucknow, Feb 27 (ANI): Three security guards were killed after some unknown miscreants opened fire on them and looted cash from HDFC bank's ATM booth in Hasanganj area of Lucknow. Reportedly, the incident took place when the custodians of the cash van were in the process of refilling money into an ATM of HDFC bank. Lucknow Inspector General Zaki Ahmed said that almost 50 lakhs has been looted and that investigation is going on in the matter. Police are trying to get the CCTV footages of the incident. SC bars N Srinivasan from participating in BCCI AGM on March 2

New Delhi, Feb 27 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Friday barred N Srinivasan from participating in the BCCI AGM on March 2. The decision effectively means that Srinivasan will not be able to contest the BCCI elections. He was seeking a second term as Board president. Further, the ICC chairman has also apologised to the Supreme Court for attending a BCCI working committee meeting in spite of a court order asking him to stay away from Board affairs till his "conflict of interest" charges were cleared.
