Vaiko meets Rajnath; objects to Rajapaksa's invite

New Delhi, May 23 (ANI): Marumalarchi Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (MDMK) chief Vaiko met BJP president Rajnath Singh on Friday and told him that Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa's attendance in Prime Minister-designate Narendra Modi's oath ceremony would be the saddest day for Tamils. Talking to reporters, Vaiko said he has urged Rajnath Singh to discuss the issue with Modi and avoid Rajapaksa's attendance in the ceremony, due to be held on May 26.

Congress leaders analyze reasons behind massive defeat in general elections

New Delhi/ Guna, May 23 (ANI): India's out of favour Congress leaders did introspection over disconnect with the people of the country and analyzed the reasons behind the party's massive defeat in the world's biggest democratic exercise. Congress leader, Priya Dutt stated that the Congress needs to go back to the people and ask their advice to understand where the party went wrong in gaining their confidence. Meanwhile, Congress leader Captain Amrinder Singh who was declared winner against senior BJP leader Arun Jaitley in Amritsar constituency of Punjab, said the failure of Congress was a collective responsibility and that there is nothing wrong with the leadership of Rahul Gandhi.

Police nab four hardcore Maoists in Ranchi

Ranchi, May 23 (ANI): Police arrested four hardcore Maoists in India's red corridor of Gulma district and interiors of Ranchi in Jharkhand and recovered arms, ammunition and a number of mobile phones. Two of the arrested Maoists were area commanders of the red rebel outfit. The police launched combing in the area and were successful in nabbing the Maoist on Thursday. Maoists, also known as Naxals, have killed police and politicians, and targeted government buildings and railway tracks in an insurgency that has killed thousands since the 1960s. The Maoists, who say they are fighting for the rights of the poor and landless, control some of India's mineral-rich areas and operate in large areas of the eastern, central and southern countryside.

Strike hampers cross border Indo-Bangladesh trade

South Dinajpur, May 23 (ANI): An indefinite strike at Hilly border transit in South Dinajpur district of West Bengal hampered trade between India and Bangladesh. The strike was called on May 14 by the Bangladesh Exporters Association. According to the President of Hilly Exporters Association Bikash Mandal, the complication started between Bangladesh Customs clearing Agents with the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) at the transit point. BGB reportedly tried to forcefully thump their seal on every export manifesto and also harassed importers which resulted in 1500 trucks stranded at the Indian site as well as in the Bangladeshi site.

Delhi police initiates steps to improve security and safety of people from the Northeast

New Delhi, May 23 (ANI): Valerie is from Nagaland. She recently completed her higher education from New Delhi, and is now pursuing a career in Mass Communication. She has been living in the capital since 2007 and believes the attitude of local people towards those hailing from the northeast is changing. In the recent past, a few incidents of discrimination and molestation of people from the Northeast were reported from the city. Following the death of a student from Arunachal Pradesh, Nido Taniam, many students, social activists and NGOs held protests against racial discrimination. The centre also formed a "six member committee" to look into the concerns of people from the Northeast, across the country.
