Chaos over government formation in Delhi continues

New Delhi, July 17 (ANI): Political parties on Thursday continued targeting each other over the issue of government formation in Delhi. Former Income Tax Official Arvind Kejriwal was elected to lead the Delhi government last year but resigned after 49 days, accusing the BJP and Congress of blocking his legislative agenda. According to the newly-appointed Delhi unit BJP Chief, Satish Upadhyay, the party will consider government formation if invited by the Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. However, AAP leader Manish Sisodia questioned Prime Minister Narendra Modi on what grounds will BJP form the government in Delhi.

Israeli attacks on Gaza spark protest in New Delhi

New Delhi, July 17 (ANI): Members of Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) on Thursday took to streets in their protest against Israeli air strikes on Gaza Strip that have killed at least 160 Palestinians. On Thursday, CPI (M) members came out in droves and protested outside Israel Embassy in New Delhi. CPI (M) leader, Nilotpal Basu, slammed the governments of American and western European nations for not protesting against the air strikes. Echoing similar views, a leader of CPI (ML) Liberation, Kavita Krishnan, urged the Indian government to take a tough stand against Israeli attacks.

India short of coal, accepts power minister; politicos from rival parties slam govt

New Delhi, July 17 (ANI): India's power and coal minister Piyush Goyal has admitted that the country is running dangerously low on coal that has led to a shortage of power supply in many parts in the country. Even though Goyal passed the buck onto the previous UPA government, Congress leader Ambika Soni said that rather than blaming the UPA, the current government should take action to solve the problem. Last week Goyal urged power companies to raise thermal coal imports after saying that 26 out of 100 coal-based power plants in India had "super critical" stocks. However, opposition parties are urging the government to use up saved coal in India rather than importing it to provide cheap electricity to people.

Tariff in the New Delhi Municipal Corporation area has also been hiked by 9.52 per cent.

Home Minister launches youth info portal on world population day 2014

BSE closes points 11.44 up on July 17

New Delhi, July 17 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 11.44 points up to stand at 25,561.16. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 16.05 points up to stand at 7,640.45. Crompton Greaves and TTK Prestige were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 13.45% and 9.11% along with CRISIL and JPINFRATEC with an increase of 7.32% and 6.92% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include Mahindra and Mahindra and Cadila Health with a decrease of 3.18% and 2.67% along with Prestige Estates and Bajaj Auto with a decrease of 2.53% and 2.27% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is down 25.24 points at 15,716.27 while the banking sector is down 2.42 points at 17,477.50 and the realty sector is down 15.60 points at 1,998.91. The Indian currency is 0.04 % up at Rs 60.15 per dollar.
