Kashmir separatist support Paks resolution, calls for self rule

Srinagar, Feb 07 (ANI): Separatists in Jammu and Kashmir hailed Pakistan’s resolution, calling upon India to remove security forces from the state and accept their right for self rule in the region. The Pakistan National Assembly on Tuesday (February 04) unanimously passed a resolution calling upon India to withdraw all security forces from the state and accept their right to self-determination. It also said that India should include the people of Kashmir in the Indo-Pak dialogue. The two nuclear-armed countries have fought two wars over Kashmir but had sought to ease access and commerce in a region at the heart of more than 60 years of hostility. Feb 7, 2014

Indian women denied voice in decision-making: Kofi Annan

New Delhi, Feb 07 (ANI): Nobel laureate and former United Nations Secretary General Kofi Annan, said that women in India were still denied the right to take decisions, which have an impact on their lives. Annan was addressing the 14th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit in New Delhi where he said despite marked progress in India and elsewhere, the society faces the challenge to eliminate gender discrimination and strive for equality. Delhi govt order SIT probe in 1984 riots, politicos welcome move

New Delhi/ Ludhiana, Feb 07 (ANI): The Delhi cabinet approved the set up of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the 1984 anti-Sikh riots within a time frame of one year, following the suggestion by national capital government to Lieutenant Governor Najeeb Jung. Police officers from outside Delhi would be responsible for conducting an inquiry in the case. AAP leader Sanjay Singh said this step would ensure a speedy and unbiased investigation in the case and would help in punishing the people involved in abetting the deadly riots. J&K minister Shabir Ahmad Khan booked on molestation charges, politicos condemn

New Delhi/ Jammu, Feb 07 (ANI): Politicos on Friday condemned Jammu and Kashmir Minister Shabir Ahmad Khan who was booked by police on a complaint by a lady doctor, alleging that he made an attempt to molest her. JD (U) leader Ali Anwar said that people committing such crimes should be hanged. Following the suit, SP leader Naresh Agarwal said that such cases are increasing day by day and it should be checked. Solicitor general says Delhi Jan Lokpal unconstitutional, politicos react

New Delhi, Feb 07 (ANI): After Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran claimed Delhi Jan Lokpal bill to be unconstitutional, politicos reacted on different fronts. On one hand, JD (U) leader Ali Anwar said that the solicitor general belongs to central government and that he is speaking words of ruling Congress government. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal said that Arvind Kejriwal is aware that his government is short-termed and therefore is trying to convince people that he is fulfilling his promises. Jan Lokpal Bill by Delhi govt unconstitutional: Solicitor General

New Delhi, Feb 07 (ANI): Raising a red flag over the move by Delhi government to bypass the Centre on the Jan Lokpal Bill, Solicitor General Mohan Parasaran has said the Bill must be presented to the Lieutenant Governor before it is tabled in the state Assembly. Parasaran has said the Bill can become law in the National Capital Territory only after it receives the President's assent. Parasaran's opinion came in response to L-G Najeeb Jung's request for counsel on two counts: whether presenting the Bill in the Assembly without sending the legislative proposal to the Central government violates the constitution; and whether the Delhi government has the power to legislate on matters concerning the Delhi Police and the Delhi Development Authority. Security forces to take tough action against anti-talk faction of NDFB (S) in Assam

Assam, Feb 07 (ANI): Two people, including a senior police officer and an informer, were killed and four others injured on January 28 after a police team was ambushed by cadres of NDFB (S) in Sonitpur district of Assam. The militants fired upon a police team that was returning to the local police station. Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Gulzar Hussain was killed in the ambush and four constables suffered bullet injuries. The injured were taken to the Tezpur Civil Hospital.
