Nagpur, Sept 28 (ANI): The BJP which declared that its alliance with Shiv Sena is over and is ready to fight alone against Congress in Maharashtra said on Sunday that now one-party rule will change Maharashtra's future. Talking to medaipersons in Nagpur, BJP leader Nitin Gadkari said that the state has till now seen alliance government now one party government will come. He added that Maharashtra needs development and the BJP will work for it.

Majid Memon hails Sharad Pawar as tallest leader in Maharashtra

Mumbai, Sep 28 (ANI): NCP leader Majid Memon on Sunday said that even his party's opponents would not hesitate in agreeing that NCP Chief Sharad Pawar is the tallest leader in Maharashtra. Memon said that he is hopeful about NCP emerging as the number one party after upcoming Maharashtra assembly elections. AIADMK supporters protest against Jayalalithaa's arrest, alleges false case by DMK

Bangalore/ Chennai, Sep 28 (ANI): AIADMK supporters on Sunday came out on protest in Chennai city of Tamil Nadu against the Bangalore special court's decision to sentence state Chief Minister Jayalalithaa for 4-years of jail in disproportionate assets case. Supporters shouted slogans and demanded release of Jayalalithaa. Security has been tightened as party supporters protested outside AIADMK Headquarters in Chennai. Jayalalithaa is the first state chief minister to have been ousted from the post because of a wealth case. She has been convicted of obtaining assets worth almost Rs. 66 crores through dishonest means during her first tenure as chief minister from 1991 to 1996. Meanwhile, AIADMK workers reached outside Bangalore jail to meet Jayalalithaa or prisoner number 7402.

Justice H L Dattu Sworn-in as Chief Justice of India

New Delhi, Sept 28 (ANI): Justice HL Dattu was sworn in as the new chief justice of India on Sunday. He was administered the oath of office by President Pranab Mukherjee. Dattu is the 42nd chief justice of India and will be at the helm of the Indian judiciary till Dec 2, 2015. He succeeds Chief Justice RM Lodha who demitted office Sep 27.

Chennai comes to a halt after Jayalalithaa sentenced to 4 years of imprisonment

Chennai, Sep 28 (ANI): Chennai woke up to a silent morning on Sunday after a Bangalore special court held Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa guilty in the disproportionate assets case. Jayalalithaa is sentenced to 4 years of jail for obtaining assets worth almost Rs. 66 crores through dishonest means during her first tenure as chief minister from 1991 to 1996. Saturday, the day of the sentence, left Chennai bruised, battered and licking the wounds caused by nearly half a day of violence and picketing. A tight security is at place outside DMK Chief M Karunanidhi's residence in Chennai, a day after AIADMK supporters burnt his effigies in protest. All business establishments and offices are shut and city's transportation also came to a halt. Jayalalithaa has been disqualified from public office for at least 6 years which, combined with the jail sentence, means that she cannot contest polls for 10 years. Meanwhile, considerations are being undertaken for Presidnet's rule in the state soon.

Bangladeshi expatriates stage protest against Sheikh Hasina in US

New York, Sep 28 (ANI): Bangladeshi expatriates held a protest against Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina in the United States. Hasina was in New York to attend the 69th edition of United Nations General Assembly. The protesters blamed Hasina for killing thousands of the countrymen. Several supporters of Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) were also present during the demonstration.
