SC grants Sahara Chief 15 days extension to finalize deals

New Delhi, Sep 08 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday allowed Sahara Chief Subrata Roy to stay in Tihar Conference Room for 15 more working days in order to finalize deals. His lawyer said that an application was submitted by Roy and relevant documents were provided before the Court observing which the Court granted extension. Roy had been allowed to stay in the conference room to enable him arrange Rs 10,000 crore as security to come out on bail. He has been in jail since March 4. Sep 8, 2014

Over 5000 people rescued from flood-hit areas in Kashmir

Jammu And Kashmir/New Delhi, Sep 08 (ANI): Indian army, air force and personnel of National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) rescued more than 5000 people from flood-hit areas in Jammu and Kashmir and set up relief camps on Monday. The death toll from serious flooding in Kashmir climbed to 175 with homes, military bases and hospitals inundated in the region's main city Srinagar as the Jhelum river overflowed its banks. Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed floods a national level disaster and announced 11 billion rupees in disaster relief payments, as well as compensation to victims and their relatives. Singh further said that additional 62 boats were deployed as 108 were already pressed into service in the state. Flood waters inundate farmlands in border villages of Punjab

Gurdaspur, Sep 08 (ANI): Dozens of border villages and farmlands were inundated due to floodwaters in Gurdaspur district of Punjab, while 18 people including children have been rescued. These villages across river Ravi remained cut off following flooding of the Basanter Nullah near the Pakistan borders. The incessant rains in Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab have created havoc when the river waters breached embankments on the Indian side and the flow of water increased sharply. Meanwhile, Indian army teams conducted rescue operations and saved 18 people who were stuck in the flooded areas. Evacuation is being carried out.
