Workers protest against nationwide strike call by Bangladesh Nationalist Party

Dhaka, Jan 22 (ANI): Workers of Bangladesh's garment industry and transport department on Thursday protested against the 48-hour nationwide strike call given by opposition, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), in Dhaka. Shouting slogans against BNP, the workers condemned the countrywide strike. Angry protestors demonstrated outside the office of BNP president and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia. The BNP also enforced a nationwide transport blockade which entered its third consecutive week. The political unrest began on January 05 when BNP boycotted election anniversary. The BNP and its allies had boycotted the election that was held in January 05, 2014 which was marred by deadly unrest. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina held to her stance that a fresh poll can be called only if her rivals halt violence. Man dies of swine flu in Aurangabad

Aurangabad, Jan 22 (ANI): A 42-year-old man died of swine flu at a government hospital in Aurangabad district of Maharashtra, doctors said on Thursday. The victim identified as Shabbir Hussain Mustafa was admitted to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) on Wednesday in a critical condition. His lungs were damaged and he was kept on ventilator. Dr Mangala Borkar, head of the medicine department, said he was administered Tamiflu but he did not respond to it. This is the first swine flu casualty in the region in the last six months. Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus. H1N1 symptoms are similar to those produced by other influenza viruses - fever, cough, sore throat, body aches and respiratory problems. New Delhi, Jan 22 (ANI): Animal rights organisation, People for Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), demonstrated in New Delhi on Thursday to urge Prime Minister Narendra Modi to discuss greenhouse gas emissions caused by meat processing with US President Barack Obama, who arrives in India on January 25. Obama was invited by Modi and will be the first US president to attend Republic Day celebrations on January 26. PETA activists braved the rain and Delhi winter as they stood painted in colours of national flags of the two countries and held placards urging people to go vegan in order to combat climate change. Organiser, Puneet Sharma, said meat production and processing is responsible for the emission of a major chunk of greenhouse gases.
