Sunanda Pushkar's son interrogated by SIT

New Delhi, Feb 05 (ANI): Sunanda Pushkar's son Shiv Menon is being interrogated by the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the Delhi Police on Thursday in connection with the probe related to her death in January last year. Police Commissioner BS Bassi said Menon's interrogation can throw light on various aspects which can help with the investigation. Sunanda's husband and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, television journalist Nalini Singh and former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh have been interrogated by the SIT so far. Earlier last month, the police had said that 51-year-old Sunanda was poisoned. A case of murder was registered on January 6. Sunanda, who was found dead in the five-star Leela Hotel in Delhi on January 17, 2014, was married to Tharoor for a little less than four years.

Vanzara gets bail in Ishrat Jahan case

Ahemdabad, Feb 05 (ANI): Former Indian Police Service (IPS) officer DG Vanzara was on Thursday granted bail by a special court in Gujarat in connection with the Ishrat Jahan fake encounter case. The court has asked Vanzara to submit a surety bond of Rs two lakh. Suspended Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) PP Pandey has also been granted bail in this case. The court has asked Pandey to submit two surety bonds of Rs. 50,000 each and his passport as condition for the bail. This is the first instance in which an accused has been granted regular bail in this case. Pandey was the Joint Commissioner of Police of Ahmedabad Detection of Crime Branch, when 19-year old Ishrat Jahan was killed along with three men in a police encounter in 2004. All four were shot dead by police officers who claimed that they were involved in a plot to kill Narendra Modi, who was the Chief Minister of Gujarat at that time.

French minister at Delhi summit says climate disruption will hamper development

New Delhi, Feb 05 (ANI): French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius on Thursday said that efforts to reach an agreement, which is due at the United Nations summit in Paris in December, would fail if any country believed it would hurt their economic prospects. Speaking at the inaugural session of 15th Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) along with former California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger and chairman UN Inter-governmental Panel on Climate Change Rajendra Pachauri, Fabius said that rich and developing nation should work step-by-step against climate disruption. Lauding Modi's efforts, Schwarzenegger said the prime minister started a solar revolution. Meanwhile, Pachauri emphasised on implementing solutions.

Mamata Banerjee urges people of Delhi to vote for AAP in assembly elections

New Delhi, Feb 05 (ANI): Just as campaigning in Delhi came to an end on Thursday, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee urged the people of Delhi to vote for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in Assembly polls. Banerjee took to twitter saying, "Delhi elections on (Feb) 7. My request to all of you in Delhi to please vote for AAP. For the greater need of the country and development in Delhi." The contest in Delhi is a very close fight between the BJP and the AAP, which is fronted by Arvind Kejriwal. The AAP and the Bharatiya Janata Party are the main contenders for power in election for the 70-member Delhi assembly. Meanwhile, reacting on the same, BJP leader Sambit Patra said that Banerjee is supporting AAP because thy both represent corruption and scams.

Srinjoy Bose resigns from TMC, gives up RS membership

New Delhi, Feb 05 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Srinjoy Bose, who has been granted conditional bail in the Saradha chit-fund scam, on Thursday resigned from his party and also gave up the Rajya Sabha membership. He tweeted saying, "With immediate effect, I have resigned from my membership of the Rajya Sabha. I have also decided to resign from the primary membership of the Trinamool Congress (TMC)." "During my days in custody, I finally realized that politics isn't my cup of tea. I am thankful to Didi (Mamata Banerjee) that she had thought me capable enough to make me an MP," he added. The TMC MP was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for his alleged links in the Saradha scam in November last year. Meanwhile, BJP leader Siddharth Nath Singh said that this is the beginning of fall of TMC emperor in West Bengal.

'Won't tolerate any discrimination', Rajnath assures Christian community leaders

New Delhi, Feb 05 (ANI): In the wake of the recent attacks on churches in the national capital, Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday assured a delegation from the Christian community that the Centre would never tolerate any discrimination in the name of caste, colour, language or religion. The Home Minister took to twitter to disclose about the meeting between him and the group of leaders from Christian community, who called on him earlier today. "Met with a group of leaders from Christian community today who were concerned over the reports of attacks on churches," tweeted Rajnath. "I assured them that the present dispensation would never tolerate any discrimination in the name of caste, colour, language or religion," he added. Meanwhile, Father Dominic, the spokesperson of Delhi Catholic Archdiocese expressed grave concern over agitators being detained by the police.

SUCI (c) cadres clash with police in Kolkata

Kolkata, Feb 05 (ANI): A Socialist Unity Centre of India (Communist) protest turned violent after cadres of the left party clashed with the police in Kolkata on Thursday. The protest, which was against the Mamata Banerjee-led state government, saw the agitators demand employment for all and a reduction in the price hike that the city has been witnessing in recent months. The police, after warning the crowd to disperse, lathi-charged the protestors, who fled at the onslaught.

New Delhi, Feb 05 (ANI): Just two days before Delhi goes to polls, BJP leader Shatrughan Sinha on Thursday praised the Aam Aadmi Party Chief Arvind Kejriwal. Sinha said that Kejriwal is a 'good man' and that the party's prospects are bright. He said that the fight in the national capital is between Kiran Bedi who has a clean image and has been a good officer, and Arvind Kejriwal, who too has a clean image. Further, Sinha also said that the negative campaigning that the national capital has been observing is unfortunate.
