Swine Flu claims four more lives in Mumbai

Mumbai, Feb 06 (ANI): Swine flu claimed four more lives in Mumbai, taking the toll to nearly 200 across the country in 2015. Additional Municipal Commissioner of Mumbai, Sanjay Deshmukh said 26 patients were admitted in various hospitals. The disease has killed 191 people in the country in January alone with Telangana being worst hit. So far 2,038 people have been afflicted by the virus. Swine flu is caused by H1N1 virus. H1N1 symptoms are similar to those produced by other influenza viruses - fever, cough, sore throat, body aches and respiratory problems.

Delhi Polls- A riveting duel between comrades turned rivals results of which are yet to be witnessed

New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): New Delhi is in the middle of election frenzy with two major players - Arvind Kejriwal of Aam Aadmi Party and Kiran Bedi of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) -locked in a tight race to the finish. Delhi goes to polls on Saturday for the second time in 14 months after the last elections threw up a hung assembly. Never before has a state election transfixed the attention of a nation as it has done this time around where two former bureaucrats, Magsaysay awardees and anti-corruption activists, are pitted against each other. The capital city, an amalgamation of people from almost all the Indian states, is witnessing a too-close-to-call fight between BJP and AAP, which captured people's imagination with its promise of corruption free rule. Congress party, which ruled the capital for the past 15 years, has been reduced to a fringe player amid seething anger over a slew of corruption scandals that tainted its last stay in power.

Asian Development Bank president calls on PM Narendra Modi

New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Takehiko Nakao met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Nakao was accompanied with a delegation from the ADB as they discussed matters of mutual interest to India and the ADB, with Modi. After the meet, Modi tweeted a picture of the two leaders shaking hands, reading the caption: "A very productive meeting with Mr. Takehiko Nakao, President of the Asian Development Bank. @ADB_HQ". Meanwhile, the ADB tweeted: "In meeting with @narendramodi, @ADB_HQ Pres Nakao lauds #India's brighter growth prospects". Nakao commended India's efforts to improve business environment and accelerate infrastructure investment. He highlighted the importance of reform measures by India like raising the FDI ceiling in many sectors, fast tracking infrastructure projects and reduction on fuel subsidies.

India, US must bring persistence to overcome obstacles: US Ambassador to India

New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): US Ambassador to India, Richard Verma said that both countries should bring energy and persistence to overcome the obstacles towards achieving the shared objectives agreed by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Barack Obama. Verma added that leaders had set the tone and it was up to rest of them to take the relationship forward that involves Foreign Secretary S Jaishankar and his team, cabinets, bureaucracies and national security teams. The January 25 announcement by Obama and Modi followed six weeks of intensive talks, but few details were released beyond a framework based on India's acceptance of the principle that plant operators should bear primary liability in the event of a nuclear disaster.

Radio emerges as Kashmir's hero post floods

Srinagar, Feb 06 (ANI): Radio has emerged as the ultimate choice of mass media for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the aftermath of the floods that wrecked havoc in September last year. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley last year. Roads in Srinagar were transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals. When all channels of communication including phone lines and other mass media networks like the state owned television channel Doordarshan were down, it was FM services of state owned station 'Radio Kashmir' which kept the people up to date with the latest happenings and also acted as a platform where their grievances were highlighted. As a result of this a lot of people in the state still prefer to listen to radio over other mediums of mass communication like television and newspapers.
