Police defuse 20 kilograms of explosives in Bokaro

Bokaro, Apr 13 (ANI): Police defused 20 kilograms of cane bombs, which was planted by Maoists in Bokaro district of Jharkhand, in a bid to disrupt ongoing parliamentary elections, said a senior officer. Inspector General of Police (IGP), Laxman Prasad Singh, said security personnel received intelligence inputs about the explosives during a combing operation.

Akhilesh slams BJP for misusing religion for poll campaigns

VS Sampath meets political parties in Tamil Nadu ahead of polling

Chennai, April 13 (ANI): The Chief Election Commissioner of India VS Sampath met political parties in Tamil Nadu on April 12, as part of election preparedness assessment as the election is scheduled to be held on April 24 in the state. Sampath met representatives of all major political parties in the state discussing election management. Sampath directed the election machinery and the election officials to ensure that fair election processes are maintained. Tamil Nadu is notorious for the election expenditures by the political parties and workers for wooing the voters with money, liquor and freebies. However, he warned the general public that taking bribe from political parties is punishable under section 171 B of Indian Penal Code.

Controversial remark by Khaleda Zias son sparks protest in Bangladesh

Dhaka, April 13 (ANI): Political organizations took to roads in Bangladesh on Saturday to protest against the comment made by former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia’s son Tarique Rahman against Bengali nationalist politician and statesman Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Tarique Rahman, senior Vice-Chairman of the Bangladesh Nationalist Party, had said on April 08 in London that Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was an illegal Prime Minister because he had apparently ignored the declaration of independence made on April 10, 1971 when the first government in-exile was formed. Reportedly, Tarique quoted the declaration saying Sheikh Mujibur Rahman would remain as president and Syed Nazrul Islam as vice-president until the adoption of the constitution.
