Muslims who don't vote for SP not true Muslims, says Abu Azmi; politicos slam

Khalilabad/ New Delhi, May 2 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi sparked another controversy when he said that Muslims who do not vote for his party are not "true Mulsims". He further said that their DNA test should be conducted to ensure if they are Muslims. Politicos have condemned Azmi over the remark.

Azam Khan's remark over EC invites mixed reactions

New Delhi, May 2 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan's remark that Election Commission should not behave like God gave way to mixed reactions by various leaders on Friday. Congress leader Meem Afzal said that Azam Khan is free to say anything within the limits of law not beyond that. Former SP leader Shahid Siddiqui agreed that EC should not behave like God but also highlighted that everyone including Azam Khan should respect the EC. Meanwhile, Muslim Cleric Mufti Mukarram said that Election Commission treated Azam Khan partially which is wrong and thus it should correct it.

Politicos welcome govt's initiative to appoint Allahabad HC sitting judge to probe Snoopgate

New Delhi/ Ahmedabad, May 02 (ANI): Political leaders welcomed the government's initiative to approach Allahabad High Court sitting judge to probe into the Snoopgate case. Congress leader Kapil Sibal said that Narendra Modi is terrified by the news. He said that there was no chance of getting any results out of this case wherein the commission is set up by Modi himself. Arjun Modhwadia said that the present commission was a 'Modi saving commission' and that the central government should have appointed the judge long before. Samajwadi Party leader Ram Gopal Yadav said that it is a welcome decision but should have taken place long ago. Meanwhile, CPI leader Gurudas Dasgupta also welcomed the move.

Security beefed up at sensitive installations after Chennai train blasts

Coimbatore, May 02 (ANI): Police beefed up security at railway stations across India after two bomb blasts in Bangalore- Guwahti train in Chennai which killed one woman and left nine others injured. Paramilitary forces and dog squads were deployed at several stations, with the police scanning through belongings of almost all the passengers in Coimbatore city in Tamil Nadu. Police in the northern part of the country also issued an alert and railway stations were scrutinised. A team from the National Investigation Agency has joined the investigation in Chennai.

Suspected Bodo militants kill at least 10 people in Assam

Assam, May 02 (ANI): Suspected Bodo militants killed at least10 people in two separate incidents in Kokrajhar and Baksa districts of Assam. In the first incident suspected Bodo militants entered a house and fired indiscriminately, killing three members of a family including two women and injuring an infant in the Baksa district on Thursday night. The severely injured infant was rushed to the nearby hospital as he suffered injuries from the bullet. In the Kokrajhar district, at least 7 people were gunned down by the suspected terrorists after they opened indiscriminate fire on the civilians.

SC reconstitutes SIT to probe into black money case

New Delhi, May 02 (ANI): Supreme Court directed the central government to appoint former Justice MB Shah as chairman of Special Investigation Team (SIT), constituted to investigate cases of black money stashed in foreign banks. The court also asked the union government to furnish the list of unaccounted money holders. After remaining reluctant for almost three years, government revealed 18 names who have allegedly stashed money abroad.

Amethi, May 02 (ANI): Addressing a rally in Amethi, AAP Chief Arvind Kejriwal, urged people to defeat ruling Congress party and end dynasty rule in order to weed out corruption from the country. There is a three-cornered contest in Amethi, as Rahul Gandhi will face Smriti Irani from BJP and Kumar Vishwas from Aam Aadmi AAP from the same constituency. Congress will back GST if in opposition: Jairam Ramesh

New Delhi, May 02 (ANI): Rural Development Minister Jairam Ramesh said that if the Congress party is pushed into opposition after a general election, it would give its backing to a major tax reform it tried to bring during 10 years in office. Ramesh criticised BJP’s prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for blocking the general services tax (GST), which is aimed at easing doing business, raising revenues and boosting growth. Meanwhile, he called Modi a fascist. He said that he always welcomed the dynamic personality of Atal Bihari Vajpayee but was very uncomfortable by Modi’s fascist vibes. Ramesh said that Rahul Gandhi was more focused on bringing reforms in the party where he has been working on multiple levels and not just campaigning for 2014 polls.
