Football catches the fancy of youth in Mizoram

Mizoram, May 1 (ANI): Energetic and focused! Every evening, these budding players in village Kanhmun gather in a local ground to hone their skills in soccer. Despite poor infrastructure, the spirits are high after the state won the Santosh Trophy, an annual national football tournament, recently. Two players from Mizoram, Lalrindika Ralte and Jeje Lalpekula, play for the national team. To encourage football among the youth, the state government has provided two astro turfs at Aizwal and one at Lunglei. The fourth one is coming up at Champhai. In 2012, the state government launched the Mizoram Premier League (MPL) and organized tournaments with the participation of various clubs of the state. Mizoram's success story will surely inspire other states in the region as well.

Congress workers protest outside BJP headquarters

New Delhi, May 01 (ANI): Congress party workers staged protest in front of BJP headquarters in New Delhi on Thursday demanding response to 50 corruption cases in which BJP is allegedly involved. Seemingly irked at the scam allegations Congress President Sonia Gandhi's son-in-law Robert Vadra, Congress Party workers who staged protest, raked up allegations against son-in-law of Atal Bihari Vajpayee, Ranjan Bharttacharya. Earlier, BJP leadership released a video and a booklet as the party's sharpest attack on Vadra and the Congress party. Flamboyant businessman Vadra has denied the accusations levelled by anti-corruption activists, of improper dealings with DLF.

Azam Khan dares EC to cancel his membership, says panel not 'God of Politics'

Rampur, May 01 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Azam Khan on Thursday dared Election Commission to cancel his membership if it so desires and said that the panel is not 'God of politics'. He said that he don't want the poll panel's pity and that it can cancel his membership and then see with what margin he wins the polls. He also alleged that the EC had been working for previously for Congress and now for BJP's interests. He also said that the panel is not taking action against Narendra Modi who is violating the model code of conduct, but against him who is speaking for the interests of the Muslim community.

Andhra Pradesh, May 1 (ANI): BJP's PM candidate Narendra Modi on Thursday while addressing a rally in Andhra Pradesh's Madanapalle tried to woo voters by highlighting the BJP's dream for the future of India. Modi said that BJP wants a skilled India and not a scam India. He addressed the tomato farmers and attacked the railway system in the country where marble is given priority for transport than tomatoes. Modi also tried to encourage the farmers to adopt advanced schemes for better revenue. He further expressed the BJP dream to build a knowledge city in Seemandhra.

Bomb threat call at Delhi Metro a hoax, security beefed up

New Delhi, May 01 (ANI): After a bomb threat call at Delhi Metro on Thursday turned out to be a hoax, CISF PRO Hemendra Singh, after carrying out a thorough check inside stations and trains, said that security has been beefed up. He said that the call was received at about 10:15 AM and turns out that it was a fake call. He said that the situation is normal, however the officials are alert after the incident.

Chidambaram says 2000-2003 saw worst phase in India's growth
