Japan hit by 6.8 magnitude earthquake leaving houses collapsed and injuring many people

Japan, Nov 23 (ANI): An earthquake with preliminary magnitude of 6.8 jolted central Japan on Saturday evening, temporarily trapping people in collapsed homes and leaving at least 39 people injured, police said. The Japan Meteorological Agency said no tsunami warning was issued after the quake, which was felt in capital Tokyo around 180 km away. The hardest-hit area appeared to be Hakuba village, which hosted events in the 1998 games. Many homes were lost in Otari, a nearby village to the north. Non-residential buildings were also destroyed, with officials still assessing the extent. Meanwhile, residents began going through the rubble and cleaning up their damaged homes after the overnight earthquake collapsed houses and triggered landslides. Local residents said they had little time to react when the earthquake hit.

Shortest cow of Kerala gets place in Guinness Book of World Records

Kozhikode, Nov 23 (ANI): Onlookers thronged the Kerala for a glimpse of the shortest cow in the world whose photographs will soon be logged in the Guinness Book of World Records. The five-member Guinness Book of World Records team came to Kerala to click photographs of the indigenous cow of 'Vechur' breed and declared Manikyam to be the world's shortest cow. The six-year-old Manikyam, who measurers 61.5 centimeters from the hoof to the withers would replace the 69.07 centimeter Blaze, the current holder of the Guinness Book of World Records for the shortest cow from United States. Villagers clicked pictures of Manikyam with their mobile phones, who stood decked with garlands around her neck and posed with another Guinness record holder for shortest actor Ajay Kumar.

Differentiating reactions come in as Uma Bharti says Sanskrit can replace English as link language

New Delhi/ Nagpur, Nov 23 (ANI): Differentiating reactions come in as Water Resources Minister Uma Bharti took the argument on German as a third language in Kendriya Vidyalayas and said that Sanskrit could, in course of time, replace English as a link language which everyone in India would understand. Congress leader Rashid Alvi said that the NDA government is taking undue advantage of being in the government and that imposing any language is not fair when they themselves are not using Sanskrit as their link language. Meanwhile, RSS Leader MG Vaidya said that Sanskrit is the base of Hindi language, which is India’s national language and so it should be accepted in the nation. However, he said that imposing any language is not acceptable.

Son of PDP leader in Kashmir opens fire at Congress Candidate

Kathua, Nov 23 (ANI): The situation in Jammu town turned tense after son of a candidate of the regional People’s Democratic Party (PDP), opened fire at a former minister and Congress candidate in Kathua Constituency, Babu Singh. As per media reports, Singh planned to contest elections this year and party activists pasted campaign posters outside a shop which is soon going to open as a PDP office. To threaten and warn Singh, Nitin Sharma alias Sharu, son of PDP candidate Subash Sharma, forced his way into his house and opened three rounds of fire and fled from there. Police arrested Sharu from his residence and seized the revolver. Meanwhile, recalling the horrific incident, Singh’s nephew, Aman Jasrotia, who is also an eye-witness, demanded stern action into the matter. The incident has shocked the residents of the area who have previously also, often complained of misbehaviour on part of Sharu.

Department of epidemics in Coimbatore organises awareness meet on Ebola

Coimbatore, Nov 23 (ANI): The Department of Epidemics in Coimbatore city on Sunday organised an awareness meet to make medical and paramedical staff more sensitive about treating patients diagnosed with the dreaded Ebola. India quarantined a man who was cured of Ebola in Liberia but continued to show traces of the virus in samples of his semen after arriving in the country, Health Minister said. The ministry said that the Indian national tested negative for Ebola in tests conforming to World Health Organisation (WHO) guidelines, but had been quarantined as a precautionary measure when he arrived at New Delhi airport on November 10. Around 400 doctors and physicians from the city took part in the meet. Speaking to a mediaperson, chief of medical unit and professor of medicine at Coimbatore Medical College (CMC), Doctor Usha said that measures have already been taken to detect Ebola patients at airports.
