Babysitters might seem like the most convenient option for parents to indulge in a little personal time, but how safe are they? In a rather chilling video that has surfaced the internet, a babysitter was caught on a lift's camera, repeatedly punching the child she was supposed to be taking caring after.

And this was just moments after waving goodbye to the baby's mother!

The baby appeared rather reluctant to leave the mother as she waved a goodbye. The video has now provided enough reason to support why the child was so hesitant, as the shocking attack begins right after the door closes.

Some reports claimed that the 42-year-old babysitter – who has been identified as 'Li' – which is only her surname – also shook the pushchair violently to stop the baby's continued wailing.

The security footage was recovered from Zhengzhou City, capital of the Henan Province in Central China. As the video proceeds, the babysitter is seen first threatening the toddler with a raised hand and then continuing to punch the child in the midriff and also in the back, a minimum of six times.

This doesn't stop the child from crying though, which makes the nanny put the baby into the pushchair and strike on the head again.

The local police reported that the video footage was actually spotted by the building's security guard who then showed the clip to the child's mother. The shocked mother then called the police, who arrested the babysitter later, on the same day, on charges of abuse.

The agency that introduced the babysitter to the family, was also questioned as the babysitter reportedly has a "good impression" and earns around 7,000 RMB (£789) a month.

As per a local outlet Sina, even though Dongfeng Road police were alerted with regard to the footage on December 5, it is still unclear if the child suffered any injuries as such, as a result of the abuse it went through.
