Delhi gang-rape: Four accused held guilty, sentencing tomorrow

New Delhi, Sept 10 (ANI): A fast track court on Tuesday found all the four accused guilty in the 2012 December 16 Delhi gang-rape case. The court holds Vinay Sharma, Akshay Thakur, Pawan and Mukesh guilty of 13 offences including gang-rape, unnatural offence, murder, dacoity, conspiracy, kidnapping and destruction of evidence. The court will pronounce the quantum of punishment tomorrow, at around 11 am. Of the total six accused, the prime conspirator Ram Singh had earlier this year killed himself in jail, while a minor accused was recently sentenced to three years in a special home by the Juvenile Justice Board.

Muzaffarnagar violence: Akhilesh assures strict action

Lucknow, Sept 10 (ANI): Talking to mediapersons on Muzaffarnagar communal clashes after a cabinet meeting in Lucknow on Tuesday, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav said that security forces were deployed to ensure there is no more violence and promised help for the thousands of refugees who left their home. He also reiterated that those guilty of inciting communal violence would be severely punished.

Manipur: 155 militants surrender to join mainstream

Imphal, Sep 10 (ANI): In a remarkable achievement, at least 155 rebels belonging to four different outfits in Manipur surrendered and attained a ceasefire pact with the state Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh after a prolonged negotiation. Senior government official J Suresh Babu, who serves as principal secretary (Home), said the surrender would add to peace in Manipur. The state government signed an agreement with the rebel groups on Monday and they would be given rehabilitation package. Indian government and the Government of Manipur have been making sincere efforts for bringing peace in Manipur by urging the rebels to join mainstream.

Indo-Pak bus service continues amidst border tensions

Poonch, Sep 10 (ANI): Even as the ceasefire violations continue on the Indo- Pak border, people travelling across India and Pakistan by bus hoped for Peace and tranquillity to prevail on the disputed border of Jammu and Kashmir. Last month, a suspected militant hurled a grenade on a patrol party, injuring nine persons including five police personnel, in Pulwama district and three civilians were killed and another injured after militants attacked a CRPF camp in Shopian district. Passengers travelling across the border on Monday expressed amazement on the fact that despite ceasefire violations on both sides of the border the bus service was still continuing.

Prosecutors have alleged that bus cleaner Akshay Kumar Singh, gym instructor Vinay Sharma, fruit-seller Pawan Gupta, and unemployed Mukesh Singh lured the woman and a male friend onto the bus on the night of December 16 as the two were returning home from watching a movie at a shopping mall in South Delhi.

Parents of Delhi gangrape victim firm on death sentence for accused

New Delhi, Sep 10 (ANI): Parents of the 16 December Delhi gangrape victim are firm on their demand of death sentence for the accused, hours before a fast track court is set to pronounce its verdict in the case that sparked nationwide fury and forced the government to overhaul women safety laws. Father of the victim wanted the judgement to act as a deterrent in future. Last month, the juvenile accused in the case was sentenced to three years in juvenile detention. Mother of the victim is however, not satisfied with the sentence given to the juvenile and urged the court to reconsider it in light of his barbaric act.
