IMF cuts India's growth forecast to 3.8%, BJP hits government

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): As India suffered the steepest cut in the International Monetary Fund's (IMF) revised growth forecasts for the year, BJP leader Yashwant Sinha on Thursday stated that the issue is very serious. He also called Finance Minister P Chidambaram an expert in bringing down growth rates. IMF, in its flagship World Economic Outlook report said that India will grow only 3.8% in the 2013-14 financial year against 5.6% projected in its July forecast, a cut of 1.8 percentage points.

Congress itself confused about Telangana issue: Naqvi

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): As the storm in Andhra Pradesh continues with strikes and YSR Congress chief YS Jagan Mohan Reddy was taken into preventive custody and admitted to a hospital as he entered the fifth day of his hunger strike, BJP Vice President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said that Congress itself is confused about the Telangana issue. He further said that few members in congress are for the division of the state and few of them are against the same. Naqvi also said that the way congress is handling the situation not helping the same, but is further deteriorating it.

At least 14 killed and 40 injured in Hoshiarpur bus accident

Hoshiarpur, Oct 10 (ANI): At least 14 people, including seven women and three children were killed and 40 others injured as a mini bus fell into a ditch in Hoshiarpur city of Punjab. The accident occurred at 10:30 pm on Wednesday. Senior Superintendent of Police Sukhchain Singh Gill confirmed about the incident on Thursday. The passengers were returning after visiting a Hindu religious site in Himachal Pradesh. According to Gill, who reached the spot of the accident, the mini bus fell in a 100 feet deep trough after the breaks of the vehicle failed.

Telugu actor Srihari passes away

Mumbai, Oct 10 (ANI): Noted Telugu film actor Srihari, who was recently seen in "Thoofan", Telugu version of "Zanjeer", passed away at Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai on Wednesday evening. The actor was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday following illness and died around 5 PM. However, the cause of his death is not known yet. Srihari, who had been suffering from a liver ailment for some time, complained of giddiness during the shooting of 'Rambo Rajkumar' being directed by Prabhu Deva with Shahid Kapoor and Sonakshi Sinha in the lead. He was rushed to a hospital where he died later.

Khurshid backs Army's claim of Pakistani involvement in Keran Sector infiltration

New Delhi, Oct 10 (ANI): External Affairs Minister Salman Khurshid backed Army Chief General Bikram Singh's statement claiming Pakistani troops' involvement in the Keran Sector infiltration, and urged the country to trust their Army and not intervene into their independence in any away. Khurshid also assured that the UPA-led Central Government is committed to assist the Army through dialogue and action, if the latter deem it necessary at any point.

Telangana row: Jagan Mohan Reddy taken into preventive custody

Hyderabad, Oct 10 (ANI): YSR Congress Chief, Jagan Mohan Reddy, who is on an indefinite hunger strike since October 5 over a move to bifurcate Andhra Pradesh, was taken into preventive custody and admitted to hospital due to his deteriorating health. A team of police officials entered Reddy's venue of fast in Hyderabad, demolished barricades set up by the supporters and lifted him, putting him into an ambulance. Earlier, a team of doctors from Osmania General Hospital (OGH) had inspected him and advised to end his fast as his health was deteriorating.

Agra's Kendriya Hindi Sansthan attracts students from the Northeast

Agra, Oct 10 (ANI): This group of 64 students from Mizoram has come to Agra to improve their Hindi at the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan. The institution is an autonomous apex organization, run by the Union Ministry of Human Resource development, and it works for the development of Hindi language in the country. Established in the year 1980, it helps students from across the country hone their skills in the language. Students from the northeastern states, where Hindi isn’t widely spoken, come to the institute every year to sharpen their language skills. The 3-week-long programme is aimed at those students and teachers who already know the language, but want to improve their command over it. The institute also provides food and accommodation to the students for free. After the course, the students can find employment opportunities in various sectors like banks, teaching and government offices. The teachers from the institute also visit regional branches to familiarize the students in non-Hindi speaking regions, with the language.
