Police arrest two Maoists responsible for landmine blast in Jharkhand

Khunti, March 27 (ANI): Police arrested two Maoists involved in a landmine blast, which injured three security officials, after a face-off in Khunti district of Jharkhand. A landmine blast near Murhu police station in Kotna village injured three officers engaged in anti-Maoist operations. The blast took place as soon as their car reached the village. Arrested Maoists belong to rebel outfit People's Liberation Front of India (PLFI). Police have recovered a rifle, three bullets and mobile phones from the arrested Maoists.

India abstains from voting against Sri Lanka on UNHRC resolution

New Delhi, March 27 (ANI): India on Thursday abstained from voting on the US-sponsored resolution seeking probe into Sri Lankan war crimes at the UNHRC, though the resolution was passed with the support of 23 nations. Talking over the same, MEA Spokesperson Syed Akbaruddin said that India have voted differently on the resolution as it imposes an international investigation mechanism. He said that adopting an intrusive approach like this that undermines national sovereignty and institutions is counter productive.

Unable to pay Rs 10,000 crore to secure Subrata Roy's release: Sahara tells SC

New Delhi, March 27 (ANI): Sahara group Chief Subrata Roy will likely remain in judicial custody till 3 April as the group informed the Supreme Court on Thursday that it is unable to pay Rs.10,000 crore for his release. On Thursday, the Supreme Court adjourned the hearing of Roy's bail plea after the Sahara group sought lowering the amount of guarantees set for its chief Roy's release on bail. The Sahara counsel told the court that the bail amount is too high and "the net worth of Subrata Roy and Sahara companies is much less than the bail amount that has been demanded".

Security tightened ahead of LS polls in Assam

Jorhat, March 27 (ANI): In a bid to ensure free and fair general elections, the police stepped up security arrangements in Assam to foil any attempt to disrupt the democratic process.
