Congress suspends Bhanwar Lal Sharma for calling Rahul 'MD of circus'

Jaipur, June 01 (ANI): Congress on Sunday suspended its Rajasthan MLA Bhanwar Lal Sharma, who had had criticised party Vice-President Rahul Gandhi for the Congress' dismal performance in the general elections and had called him 'MD of circus'. Confirming the same, party Spokesperson Archana Sharma said that party suspended him because of his illicit behavior and his such remark against Gandhi in public domain.

Two dead, 11 injured in building collapse in Sadar Bazar

New Delhi, June 01 (ANI): At least two people were killed and 11 injured when a three-storey under-construction building collapsed in Delhi's Sadar Bazar area on Sunday. Police and fire officials are still carrying out rescue operations at the site, and more people are feared trapped in the debris. According to reports, as it was an under-construction building, most of the victims are labourers.

Muslims suffer because of absence of Uniform civil code: Press Council Chief Justice M Katju

New Delhi, June 01 (ANI): Press Council of India Chairman Markandey Katju came out in support of Uniform civil code and said that the absence of the same lead to suffering of the Muslim community. He said that there is no modernization of their personal law which depletes the conditions of the community even further. Katju also said that due to vote bank politics, Uniform Civil Code has not been made a law till the time. Further, he said that whether Article 370 remains or not, Kashmir cannot be separated from India and that India is a union of states and not a confederation of states.

Former President poised to celebrate 84th birth anniversary of heritage train

Pune, June 01 (ANI): Former Indian President Pratibha Patil poised to celebrate 84th birth anniversary of the heritage train Deccan Queen or Deccan Queen Express which was the pride of the British, as it connected two major cities of Mumbai and Pune in Maharashtra. To mark the occasion train model made in cake was cut by Patil and was distributed among the attendees. Locally known as "Dakhan ki Rani", it started its first journey as a deluxe train on June 01, 1930. The frames of the coach were manufactured in England but the coach itself was manufactured in a Mumbai's Matunga workshop, which still exists today and caters largely to the maintenance of the local trains. Patil said that trains are instrumental in uniting people and bring joys to every heart.

India create awareness through marathon to mark Environment Day on June 05

Shimla/ Bhopal, June 01 (ANI): Indians ran a marathon on Sunday with a purpose of spreading awareness about preserving our environment and keeping fit in a bid to mark the approaching Environment Day. Indian marine exports cross USD 5 billion mark

Kochi, June 01 (ANI): The export of marine products from India reached an all time high of USD 5 billion during the fiscal year 2013-14. The increase in exports saw a sharp rise from the previous fiscal year's figure of USD 3.5 billion. Exports amounted to 983, 756 metric tonnes. The MPEDA, a statutory body under the central government, is a nodal agency for promotion of export of marine products from India. It is present in all the Maritime Provinces and is responsible for development schemes, aquaculture production apart from export promotion. The rise in maritime exports during 2013-14 has been attributed to increase in export of the L Vannamei shrimp, commonly known as the Whiteleg shrimp.

Badaun MP meets gang-rape victims' family, demands for quick CBI probe

Badaun, June 01 (ANI): The MP of Badaun district in Uttar Pradesh Dharmendra Yadav, on Sunday, met the family members of gang-rape victims which were later hanged to death. Yadav expressed grief over the incident and highlighted some of the major points over which he talked to the family members. He said that all efforts were taken by the state government to arrest all the 5 accused including 2 police officials and the case has also been referred to a fast-track court. He added that as per the family's demand the case has been referred to the CBI and further requested the PMO and CBI for quick probe in the case.

Suspected LeT Commander Abu Kasha killed in JandK encounter

Handwara, June 01 (ANI): Suspected Lashkar-e-Taiba Divisional Commander Abu Kasha was on Sunday gunned down in a fierce encounter with the security forces in Jammu and Kashmir. The encounter took place in Handwara, north Kashmir's Kupwara district on Sunday morning. According to the police spokesman, the Handwara police along with the army's 47 RR, 21 RR and 6 RR cordoned the area and launched the search operation in Handwara, 60 km away from Srinagar. The search operation was going on till last reports came in.
