Borewell claims 4-year-old's life in Bijapur

Bijapur, June 20(ANI): : A four-year-old girl, who fell in a 300-feet borewell in Dyaberi village near Nagatana, Bijapur, died on Thursday. Akshata's lifeless body was brought to the surface by rescuers almost 50 hours after the child's ordeal started. The incident, which sparked a massive rescue mission, happened while Akshata was walking home on Tuesday with her father, who is a farm labourer. Bijapur district incharge minister M.B. Patil refused to give details about the girl’s death, but said that case have been filed against the officials. He reiterated that if the diggers were unable to find water after digging borewells it was their responsibility to close it as well. Jun 20, 2014

New Delhi, June 20(ANI): US President Barack Obama has decided to send 300 additional U.S. Special Operations troops to assist in Iraq's fight against advancing ISIS militants. Obama said that he is sending up to 300 US military advisers to Iraq, but made clear that he will continue to hold back more substantive support till its deemed necessary. He further said that the troops are being deployed to better assess the situation on the ground, where forces of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria have moved ever nearer to Baghdad. He added that the US will be prepared to take "targeted and precise military action" if and when the situation on the ground requires it. Greenpeace India denies receiving government notice on foreign funding

New Delhi/ Tamil Nadu, June 20 (ANI): Executive director Greenpeace-India, Samit Aich denied media reports that the central government had served notice to it on its foreign funding. India has asked the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) to tighten controls on moving funds from abroad into Greenpeace's accounts. The government has asked the RBI to obtain its permission before releasing funding from Netherlands-based Greenpeace International and the US-based Climate Works Foundation, both contributors to Greenpeace India.
