Commonwealth Games 2014: India at fifth place in medal tally

Glasgow, July 27 (ANI): Indian shooters hogged the limelight on Day three of the Commonwealth Games 2014 being held at Glasgow. Prakash Nanjappa gave India the first medal of the day by winning a silver in men’s 10m Air Pistol event. Soon after, Apurvi Chandela and Rahi Sarnobat clinched a gold medal each in shooting as India continued its good show at the games. India's Rajwinder Kaur bagged a bronze in women's +78kg judo competition to add to the three medals the country won in the sport, while Omkar Otari won a bronze in the men's 69kg competition to continue India's strong show in weightlifting.

Fire officials rescue 28 people stranded due to flood in Gujarat

Vadodara, July 27 (ANI): Fire officials in Gujarat state rescued 28 people, who were stranded near a flood-hit area along the banks of Vishwamitri River in Vadodara city. Due to heavy rains pounding the city since Friday evening, the water from Ajwa reservoir was released to the river, which has now flooded. Officials of Vadodara Municipal Corporation called fire officials as soon as they received information of stranded people. Firemen arrived and started rescue operations and all 28 people, including children, were rescued.

Bangladesh PM vows to work closely with UK to strengthen partnership

Dhaka, July 27 (ANI): Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina vowed to work closely with Britain to build strong partnership between the two nations. Hasina was addressing a news conference in Dhaka city after she concluded a three-day official tour to UK for the Girl Summit. At the invitation of her British counterpart David Cameron and UNICEF executive director Anthony Lake, the Bangladesh premier visited the UK from July 21 to July 23. Terming her UK visit as successful, Hasina said bilateral relations between UK and Bangladesh would reach new heights.

Artist in Odisha appeals for peace in Gaza conflict through sand art

Puri, July 27 (ANI): Urging Israel and Palestine to end the conflict and appealing for peace, world famous sand artist, Sudarsan Pattnaik, created a sand sculpture at Puri beach of Odisha. Pattnaik, who is India's fourth highest civilian award holder, created a five-feet high hand with 'Stop war' written on it and a pigeon holding 'a message of peace'. Calling peace a solution to Israel-Gaza crisis, he said a peace process must be initiated between both the countries and the United Nations (U.N.) should intervene.

India and Nepal sign MoU on various projects

Kathmandu, July 27 (ANI): India's Foreign Minister Sushma Swaraj and her Nepalese counterpart Mahendra Bahadur Pandey have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on various projects. The MoU encompasses various projects ranging over issues of economic cooperation and bilateral relations as a step to further strengthen strategic partnership within the two countries. Swaraj said upcoming visit of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Nepal will open a new chapter of mutually beneficial India-Nepal relationship.

MEA says India's relations with Nepal are friendly

Kathmandu, July 27 (ANI): MEA Spokesperson, Syed Akbaruddin, said relations between India and Nepal are civilized in nature and India was open for any sort of talks between the nations. Indian foreign minister Sushma Swaraj is on a three-day visit to Nepal starting Friday. Indian Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, is to visit Nepal on August 4 and 5 wherein during the trip he will address parliament and hold talks with the country's leaders. Akbaruddin said the two nations, if strike the deal regarding the power projects, it will be a win-win situation for both of them.

New Delhi, July 27 (ANI): Politicians on Sunday condemned the recent communal clashes of Uttar Pradesh, which erupted after villagers protested over the installation of loudspeakers at a temple. At the epicenter of the trouble in Moradabad district is a temple in Muslim-dominated Akbarpur village belonging to the Jatav community. Bangladeshi women paint hands with traditional henna designs ahead of Eid

Dhaka, July 27 (ANI): Enthusiastic Bangladeshi Muslim women participated in Henna festival and artistically applied it on their hands in various traditional floral patterns as Eid-ul-Fitr is approaching. Eid-ul-Fitr will likely be celebrated on 29th or 30th of July after sighting of the crescent moon. Eid celebration is incomplete without henna application (patterns made with henna are painted on hands and legs), especially for Muslim women and children. Meanwhile, organiser of the festival, Shirin Sultana said that women gathered in large number for Henna applying ceremony.
