Protest demanding Kamaruzzaman's quick execution erupts in Bangladesh

Dhaka, Jan 03 (ANI): A mass demonstration was held in Dhaka demanding life sentence for war criminals. The slogan-shouting protesters, under the banner of Resurgent Platform, demanded immediate execution of leader of Jamaat-e-Islami, Muhammad Kamaruzzaman, convicted of war crimes during the 1971 Liberation war of Bangladesh, along with other war criminals. The protesters shouted slogans against the government for dilly-dallying with the execution of Kamaruzzaman and other war criminals. Meanwhile, the protesters said the commoners would take to the streets and intensify their protest if war criminals escaped the law.

Four civilians injured in cross-border firing hospitalized in Kashmir

Jammu/Ramgarh, Jan 03 (ANI): Four civilians, who were injured in shelling from across the border in Kashmir, were admitted to a government hospital in Jammu on Saturday (January 03). The injured belonged to Ramgarh and Hiranagar towns of Jammu region.Mohammad Hussain, a villager, said the firing hasn't stopped from more than twelve hours. In the fresh assault, Pakistani Rangers targeted several Indian paramilitary Border Security Force (BSF) posts in Ramgarh town of Jammu district early Saturday. Barota camp in Ramgarh sector also came under heavy mortar fire. The Chief Medical Officer (CMO) of Jammu Medical College and Hospital, RR Pal, said the condition of the injured was stable. An Indian soldier was killed on New Year eve when Pakistani Rangers opened fire in Samba district.

Congress wants govt to dig deep into terror attack case

New Delhi, Jan 03 (ANI): The Congress on Saturday urged the government to go deeper into the possible terror attack case which was averted by the Coast Guard and bring out the truth so that Pakistan could be embarrassed internationally. Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi, however cautioned that the nation cannot afford to lower its guard.Earlier on Friday, a possible terror attack was averted when a suspicious fishing boat carrying explosives in the Arabian Sea was intercepted near the India- Pakistan maritime boundary, approximately 365 kilometres away from Porbander. A statement from the Ministry of Defence said that as per intelligence inputs received on December 31, a fishing boat from Keti Bunder near Karachi was planning some illicit transaction in the Arabian Sea.

Reactions pour in as Japanese tourist allegedly gang raped for 12 days in Gaya

New Delhi, Jan 03 (ANI): Reactions poured in on Saturday after a Japanese tourist was allegedly kidnapped and raped by a Kolkata-based gang for 12 days in Gaya district of Bihar. One woman killed, two injured in heavy shelling by Pakistan

Samba, Jan 03 (ANI): One woman lost her life and three others got injured in the latest ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops on several BSF posts along the India-Pakistan border in Jammu and Kashmir's Samba and Kathua districts. Samba Deputy Commissioner of Police Mubarak Singh said that incessant firing has been taking place across the border since yesterday. He added that one woman dies in Manguchack and her child suffered a splinter injury. He further stated that arrangements have been made to move people to safer locations.

Varanasi/Amritsar/Visakhapatnam, Jan 2 (ANI): Indians on 1st January kick started the New Year celebrations by visiting shrines to offer prayers. Long queues of faithful could be seen outside major Hindu and Sikh shrines across India. The faithful believe visits to temples on the New Year day bring prosperity, good health and peace in the family. The northern temple town of Varanasi, nestled on the banks of the holy river Ganga, woke up to holy chants by priests. The temple was teeming with the faithful since early morning. Foreign tourists, who regularly visit this temple town for solace, were spellbound by the elaborate rituals. In the northern Indian city of Amritsar, devotees were seen thronging the Golden Temple, the holiest shrine of the Sikhs, since early morning. Many took a holy dip before taking part in the prayers. It Happens : Beach Bike Racing

Kochi, Jan 2 (ANI): Huge crowd gathered at Fort Kochi Beach in India's southern state of Kerala on Tuesday to watch bikers race on sand. Bikers from Kerala and neighboring states participated in the race which was part of the ongoing Cochin Carnival 2014. Professional and amateur bikers chased down each other to win the 30th edition of the race. He further said due to less sponsors, not many bikers participated in the race but it still drew huge crowd being a popular event. Each participant is required to have a valid license to take part. Special tyres with huge blocks of rubber are installed in a bike for better grip and to avoid skidding during the race. The crowd enjoyed the race and cheered whenever a biker passed by. The bikers practice for months on the beach to participate in this event. Trainers are also available but in less numbers. Cochin Carnival 2014 is one of the most awaited events in southern city of Kochi where tourists from other countries also come to witness the revelry. Celebrated in the last week of December, it sees procession of elephants, dance and music, games, races, fireworks and a host of other activities to usher in the New Year.
