Jorhat, June 26 (ANI): 13-year-old Prity Sarkar has been learning karate since January this year. She aims to become a police officer. Her parents are supportive of her martial arts training as it not only helps Prity remain physically fit but is also important for self-defense. With an increase in various crimes against women, a large number of women in the region are taking interest in learning martial arts. Bezbaruah committee for northeast people holds meetings at major cities across the country

Bangalore/ Kolkata/ Chennai, June 26 (ANI): Members of the Bezbaruah Committee recently visited Bangalore, Kolkata and Chennai and hold meetings with representatives of the north-east community in a process to look at their concerns. Headed by M P Bezbaruah, a retired IAS officer, the committee was constituted by the Centre to examine various concerns of the people from Northeast living in different parts of the country. The committee, mandated to suggest suitable remedial measures, is in the final process of talking to all the stakeholders to take their view. Madhuri Dixit becomes brand ambassador of MP health scheme

Bhopal, June 26 (ANI): The health department of central Indian Madhya Pradesh and the state unit of UNICEF appointed Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit as brand ambassador of a state scheme promoting mother and child welfare. Dixit along with state chief, Shivraj Singh Chouhan and health minister of Madhya Pradesh, Narottam Mishra launched the second phase of the campaign on Thursday in Bhopal city. Dixit has been selected as the brand ambassador for Madhya Pradesh government's 'Mamta Abhiyan' (Maternal and Child Health Campaign). Dixit emphasised on the steps being taken by the state government to ensure the safety and health of mother and child. New Delhi, June 26 (ANI): Trading at the Bombay Stock Exchange today closed 251.07 points down to stand at 25,062.67. At the National Stock Exchange the Nifty closed 76.05 points down to stand at 7,493.20. Bosch and Shriram Transport Finance Co. Ltd. were among the top gainers of Group A with an increase of 7.74% and 4.83% along with Gujarat State Petronet Ltd. and Emami with an increase of 4.50% and 3.97% respectively, while the top losers of Group A include ONGC and Indian Oil Corporation with a decrease of 5.89% and 4.68% along with Petronet LNG and HPCL with a decrease of 4.34% and 4.03% at the close of the markets. The Auto sector is up 20.03 points at 15,280.35 while the banking sector is down 197.99 points at 17,261.72 and the realty sector is down 57.44 points at 2,039.31. Varanasi, June 26 (ANI): Two young Indian engineering students have designed a jeans fitted with a walkie-talkie in an attempt to prevent rapes and other crimes against women. The jeans, the brainchild of Diksha Pathak and Anjali Srivastava, will alert the police or a guardian by a mere press of a button in case a woman senses any threat. Pathak and Srivastava, who hail from the temple town Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh where crimes against women have been rising, created the device in order to help women safeguard themselves if faced with an untoward situation.
