Donald Trump attacks China in Twitter tirade

US President-elect Donald trump has criticised China over its monetary policy and operations in the South China Sea. Posted on social media platform Twitter, the attacks came after he angered China by speaking to the President of Taiwan Tsai Ing-wen. Taiwan sees itself as an independent state but Beijing considers it as a breakaway province. The US cut off diplomatic relations to Taiwan in 1979, recognising Beijing’s claim. Dec 5, 2016

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key announces resignation

New Zealand Prime Minister John Key unexpectedly announced his resignation on 5 December, after eight years in charge. Key, who was praised for his leadership after the global financial crisis, cited his family as the main reason for wanting to resign and told reporters he has no immediate plans for the future. Alexander Van der Bellen takes unbeatable lead in Austrias presidential election

Austria’s polling stations have closed following the presidential elections on 4 December. The first projection put independent candidate Alexander Van der Bellen at 53.6%, ahead of far-right Freedom Party’s Norbert Hofer with 46,4%. 6.4 million Austrians were asked to cast their vote again following the annulment of the first election in April because of irregularities in the postal votes.The final election results are expected within the next two days.
