Ordinance to protect lawmakers absolutely fair: Samajwadi Party

New Delhi, Sep 25 (ANI): After the Union Cabinet on Tuesday, negating a Supreme Court ruling, cleared an ordinance that will protect convicted MPs and MLAs from immediate disqualification, Samajwadi Party said that it totally supports the move. The ordinance will protect convicted MPs and MLAs from immediate disqualification, provided their appeal against the conviction and sentence is admitted by a higher court within 90 days, and both the conviction and the sentence are stayed.

Govt's priority to save criminals till end: RSS on Ordinance to protect convicted leaders

New Delhi, Sep 25 (ANI): BJP spokesperson Meenakshi Lekhi on Wednesday said that the ordinance aimed at protecting convicted MPs and MLAs from facing immediate disqualification is unconstitutional. The union cabinet approved the ordinance which will negate an order of the Supreme Court that disqualified convicted MPs and MLAs immediately even if their appeal is pending in a higher court. The ordinance is set to be signed into law by the President within a couple of days. She also said that the President is bound to act at the aid and advice of the ministers under the constitution for constitutional purposes and not unconstitutional purposes.

India shies from diesel hike, seeks $5 Billion fuel savings

New Delhi, Sep 25 (ANI): The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas has shied away from introducing comprehensive energy subsidy cuts and on the contrary taken up a campaign on conservation of resources. Union Oil Minister M Veerappa Moily stated this at a news conference in New Delhi. He asked the citizens of the country to embrace car pooling, buses and cycling as well in a bid to curb fuel consumption. Moily said that he hoped to save $5 billion from fuel conservation measures even as he shied away from substantial measures such as raising diesel and other fuel prices as the electoral cycle hots up with polls due to be held by May 2014. Meanwhile, commenting on the 5 billion 'mega fuel conservation campaign', Moily said that the Petroleum Conservation Research Association (PCRA) of his ministry along with various stake holders will join hands to promote fuel conservation in a variety of sectors.

YSR Chief Jagan Reddy walks out of jail after 16 months

Hyderabad, Sep 24 (ANI): YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy walked out free of the high security Chenchalguda Central prison in Hyderabad on Tuesday, after 16 months, amidst loud cheer from supporters and sloganeering by his supporters. Once outside the jail, Jagan greeted his supporters with his signature 'namaste'. Security was tight outside the jail ahead of his release. Police had to resort to mild lathi charge to control the crowd. Earlier on Monday, Jagan was granted bail in a disproportionate assets case. He was arrested on 27th May last year by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on corruption charges.
