Never dishonored poor people, media twisted my line: Naresh Agarwal on 'Tea Vendor' remark

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): Samajwadi Party leader Naresh Agarwal on Thursday defended himself for his 'tea vendor' remark. Agarwal said that he has never dishonoured the poor in the country. He also added that the nation wants to know what is the stand of Narendra Modi on terrorism and poverty. Slamming Modi, he further said that if he jokes in his speeches during his rallies, what will be the future of the nation. In an apparent dig at the BJP's Prime Ministerial candidate, Agarwal had said on Wednesday that a person who used to sell tea cannot have a national perspective.

Open to meeting all elected leaders including Modi: David Cameron

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): British Prime Minister David Cameron, who is on a one-day visit to India, on Thursday said that he was open to meeting all elected leaders including BJP prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi. Cameron will hold talks with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on a number of bilateral, regional and international issues. The two leaders are likely to deliberate on boosting cooperation in trade and investment besides enhancing ties in areas of mutual interest. After holding talks with Dr Singh, Cameron will leave for Kolkata where he will meet West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He will also visit the Indian Institute of Management and All India Radio in Kolkata. Cameron will later fly to Colombo to attend the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting on November 15-16.

At least seven killed after bus catches fire in Karnataka

Karnataka, Nov 14: At least seven people were killed and several others injured after a luxury bus caught fire in Karnataka on Thursday. Reportedly, the incident took place when the bus, carrying more than 40 passengers was travelling from Bangalore to Mumbai, collided with a road divider and caught fire in Haveri district. The driver and majority of the passengers managed to escape. The brother of owner of the travel agency, Shakeel Ahmad expressed grief over the accident.

Nation pays tribute to Pandit Nehru on his 124th birth anniversary

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): The nation on Thursday paid tribute to the first Prime Minister of India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru, on his 124th birth anniversary. Vice President Hamid Ansari, Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi and other dignitaries paid floral tributes at his memorial - Shanti Van in the national capital. A series of functions are being organized across the country to mark the occasion. The day is also observed as the 'Children's Day' as Pandit Nehru had great affection for children. They fondly called him 'Chacha' Nehru.

Activists urge political parties to include child rights in election manifestos

New Delhi, Nov 14 (ANI): Child rights activists have demanded major political parties to include and prioritise child issues like child labour, abuse and malnutrition in their election campaign agendas, as India gears up for the general elections next year. CRY (Child Rights and You), a non-governmental forum that aims to restore children's rights, launched a "Vote for Child Rights" election advocacy campaign in New Delhi recently to push all the political parties and people in power to 'put children first' in their political manifesto.

Indian, Chinese armies wrap up joint military drill

Chengdu, Nov 14 (ANI): Indian and Chinese soldiers wrapped up the anti-militancy exercise "Hand-in-Hand", which was held between two of the largest and well-equipped armed forces in the world. The training was organized in order to enhance bilateral ties during the session taking place in the south-western region of Chengdu in China. Lieutenant General, Anil Kumar Ahuja believes interaction between the two countries will definitely promote better understanding and better appreciation. A mixed group of at least 160 personnel each from the Indian and the Chinese sides participated in the drill. Lieutenant General Zhou Xiaozhou, Chief of Staff praised Indian soldier's military skills.
