Statement on Congress to be in opposition to show party has capability: Janardan Dwivedi

New Delhi, Feb 04 (ANI): Clarifying his statement wherein AICC General Secretary Janardan Dwivedi said that Congress should have been in opposition after the 2009 Lok Sabha polls, he said that it was to show that the party has capability and courage to even sit in opposition. He said that there was no political reason behind the same and that all parties should learn from history.

AAP & BJP supporters face to face outside Arun Jaitleys residence

New Delhi, Feb 04 (ANI): Aam Aadmi Party took the protest against BJP leader Arun Jaitley to his residence on Tuesday. Jaitley has been accused by the AAP of offering its members bribes to bring down the Delhi government led by Arvind Kejriwal. However, AAP has offered no evidence in support of its allegations. The protestors demanded Jaitley's apology. Meanwhile, when the news of protest reached to BJP workers, they also assembled at Jaitley’s residence. Holding up banners against Kejriwal, the BJP supporters shouted anti AAP slogans.

Andhra CM N Kiran Kumar Reddy most unreliable: Hanumantha Rao on Telangana

New Delhi, Feb 04 (ANI): Andhra Pradesh Congress leader V Hanumantha Rao on Tuesday said that state Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy is the most unreliable person and that he took a U-turn from supporting the Telangana bill. Rao said that Reddy agreed to the separate state and later took a back step. Further, he requested the political leaders to not oppose the bill as it may lead to more loss of lives. He also acknowledged Congress President Sonia Gandhi for hr efforts to pass the bill.

India must spend 2 per cent GDP on science: Manmohan Singh

Jammu, Feb 04 (ANI): As he pitched for more funds to promote science, Prime Minister Manmohan Singh said that the country's annual expenditure on science and technology should be atleast two per cent of the GDP. Singh was addressing the Indian Science Congress for the tenth year in succession in Jammu where he said India needs to leverage the ability of modern science to deliver value to society. The event was attended by several scientists, noble laureates, Union Science and Technology Minister S Jaipal Reddy, and J&K Chief Minister Omar Abdullah. The meet will last for five days. Meanwhile, Singh also congratulated scientists for their achievements in the field of space and technology.

Former government advisor of Bangladesh analyses fateful 2014 elections

Dhaka, Feb 04 (ANI): Post the violent elections in Bangladesh conducted on January 05, the Executive Chairman of Power and Participation Research Centre (PPRC) and a former Advisor to the caretaker government of Bangladesh, Hossain Zillur Rahman, pinpointed the failures of the elections that were also shunned globally. Rahman said that the low turnout in constituencies was primarily because it was widely perceived that the election was not a competitive one. Rahman said that the question was about the legitimacy of the election.

AAP came in govt by accusing others, no governance: Mohd Adeeb

Bus service resumes across India- Pakistan border

Poonch, Feb 04 (ANI): After two weeks of crisis, Poonch- Rawalkote bus service resumed with 72 people crossing the LoC. The suspension was in retaliation to the arrest of a Pakistan truck driver, who was detained by the Indian security forces in January, while he was allegedly trying to cross the border with 114 packets of brown sugar in Kaman post area of Kashmir. Custodian, Chakan Da Bagh crossing point, Bashir Ahmed, said that the issue should be resolved quickly so that passengers as well as traders of both sides can freely cross the border. After the border bus service resumption, a visitor from Pakistan, Maqbool, looked forward to meeting his close relatives.

Rahul Gandhi expresses solidarity with northeastern students in New Delhi

New Delhi, Feb 04 (ANI): Congress Vice president Rahul Gandhi, expressed solidarity with students from the northeast in New Delhi protesting against the recent death of a student from their region and promised stringent action against the culprits. The death of a 19-year-old student from Arunachal Pradesh who was beaten up mercilessly at a busy market in New Delhi, has led to outrage among the northeast community against the regular racial discrimination they suffer at the hands of the local people. Nido Taniam was allegedly beaten to death at Lajpat Nagar in south Delhi on January 29 as he got into a brawl with local shopkeepers while reacting to a verbal racial slur and taunts on his hair colour.
