BJP slams price hike of non subsidized LPG cylinders

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): Oil companies have increased the price of non-subsidized cooking gas (LPG) cylinders by Rs 220. Following the increase, a 14.2 kg non-subsidized cooking gas cylinder in Delhi will cost Rs 1,241, up from Rs 1,021. New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): NCW chairperson, Mamta Sharma on Thursday said that the West Bengal government and chief minister Mamata Banerjee must take serious action against police negligence in the Madyamgram gangrape case. Sharma said that the victim should have been given protection after she was raped first. A murder case has also been filed now by the police against the two main accused, on the basis of the final statement of the girl in which she had said that she was set on fire by her rapists. Lokpal Bill gets President Pranab Mukherjee's nod

New Delhi, Jan 2 (ANI): President Pranab Mukherjee on Wednesday signed the much talked-about Lokpal and Lokayuktas Bill, 2013, to create a powerful anti-graft watchdog. The Bill, which was passed by Parliament in the just-concluded winter session, provides for creation of anti-graft ombudsman to investigate corruption charges against public functionaries including Prime Minister, Ministers and Members of Parliament. Among other provisions, the Bill makes it incumbent upon States to make within a year their own law for setting up Lokayuktas on the lines of the Lokpal Bill. The Bill was sent to the President on Tuesday. It will now be notified in the official gazette for it to become an Act. The Act shall be notified by the Law Ministry. Jan 2, 2014

Muzaffarnagar, Dec 2 (ANI): The riot victims of Muzaffarnagar district have alleged that they were forced to leave the relief camps, without being offered proper rehabilitation facilities by the state government. The victims, who were shifting to other villages on their own, said that the authorities had razed off their tents at the camp, without their consent. Middle-aged, Fatima Begum, who took refuge at a community hall with many others, said that she was worried about having no money to pay for the rent of her new shelter. Meanwhile, another riot victim, Mohammed Iqbal, said that the night when they discovered that authorities had scrapped down their tents, they had no shelter above their heads.
