BJP parliamentary board praises Modi for successful election campaign

New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): The BJP parliamentary board, which met on Saturday in New Delhi, thanked its prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for leading a successful election campaign. The board also felicitated Modi for guiding the party to a remarkable victory in the Lok Sabha polls. BJP Chief Rajnath Singh also thanked hundreds of dedicated party workers for their role in the BJP's victory and said assured that NDA will provide a stable government. Singh also informed that party national general secretary Thawarchand Gehlot has been appointed the observer to monitor to election of new Chief Minister for Gujarat.

Youngsters in Manipur imparted training in Thang-ta and Folk dances

Imphal, May 17 (ANI): These young girls are getting training in Thangta and Manipuri folk dances at Keirao Bitra in Imphal East district. The one-month long workshop-cum-training program was organized by the Performing Organization of Arts and Culture, Manipur under the aegis of Sangeet Natak Academy, New Delhi with Guru Thaba as the project director. During the course of the training program, special emphasis was given on teaching the girl trainees how to use the traditional martial art forms for self defense. A total of 30 girls as well as 8 boys were a part of the programme. In the past few years, Guru Thaba has regularly been training youths and promoting Thangta and folk dances.

Modi's landslide, the most resounding election victory India has seen in 30 years, was welcomed with a blistering rally on India's stock markets and spirited celebrations in New York, where supporters danced to a drum beat, wore Modi masks, and handed out sweets. The BJP looked certain of a parliamentary majority, giving the 63-year-old former tea-seller ample room to advance reforms started 23 years ago by current Prime Minister Manmohan Singh but which stalled in recent years.

Situation returns to normal in violence-hit Bodo areas of Assam

Assam, May 17 (ANI): The death toll in the mayhem unleashed by militants in Bodoland Territorial Area Districts (BTAD) has reached 36. The curfew, which was imposed on May 2, has been relaxed in Baksa, Kokrajhar and Chirang districts as no fresh violence was reported. The Assam government blamed Songbijit faction of the National Democratic Front of Bodoland (NDFB) for killing 36 people, all migrant Muslims. The Centre has sent a team of National Investigation Agency (NIA) to probe the matter and has deployed additional forces to maintain peace and calm. Chief minister Tarun Gogoi visited the violence-hit Kokrajhar district and assured justice to the victims.

New Delhi, May 17 (ANI): Prime Minister Manmohan Singh submitted his resignation to President Pranab Mukherjee in Rashtrapati Bhawan on Saturday, a day after the BJP routed the Congress in the Lok Sabha election. Earlier in the day, Dr Singh addressed the nation for the last time before submitting his resignation. Manmohan Singh was the prime minister at the head of a Congress-led government since 2004.

Nawaz Sharif invites Narendra Modi to visit Pakistan

Lahore, May 17 (ANI): Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif telephoned Narendra Modi whose party BJP has swept India’s general elections. The media coordinator for Sharif's ruling Pakistan Muslim League- Nawaz (PML-N) party, Tariq Azeem said that Sharif had congratulated Modi and had invited him to visit Pakistan. There have been concerns in Pakistan over Modi's victory because of his hard-line stance towards the nation, especially during his election campaign.
