Maoists threat looms large over 2014 general election, says expert

New Delhi, March 24 (ANI): As the 2014 general elections are approaching, experts warned government of increasing activity of Maoists in the country where the objective of the red rebels is to bleed the state wide, decrease the morale of the security forces and create a fear psychosis among people to hamper democratic processes. Pramod Muthalik's BJP membership cancelled within hours

New Delhi, March 23 (ANI): BJP Spokesperson Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday confirmed that Sri Ram Sene Chief Pramod Muthalik's membership is cancelled after the central BJP instructed the same to the state party. She said that the party felt strongly about the same and therefore have taken this action. Earlier, party leader and Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar had also expressed objection over the decision. Muthalik had courted a huge controversy in 2009 after members of his Sri Ram Sene carried out an attack on a pub in Mangalore during which young women were dragged out. He had also carried out a campaign against the celebration of Valentine's Day.

Maoist fear looms in Jharkhand ahead of LS Polls

Khunti, March 23 (ANI): Politicians in Maoist-infested Khunti district of Jharkhand expressed grave concerns as they face serious security threats from Maoists ahead of the general elections – a democratic exercise that the rebels despise. As per a report by the internal affairs ministry, Khunti has been ranked the topmost Maoist affected district in the country. Politicians said that as the mammoth exercise is just round the corner the people of the district are becoming increasingly scared of any Maoist activity. Meanwhile, the police said they are gearing up to put a fight against the insurgents and are getting support from higher authorities. Around 34 civilians and security officials were killed in Maoist attacks in Khunti last year.
