Mridula Sinha takes oath as governor of Goa

Panaji, Aug 31 (ANI): Mridula Sinha on Sunday took oath as governor of Goa and pledged to abide by her duties and to work for the welfare of the people of Goa and that state itself. Bombay High Court Chief Justice Mohit Shah administered the oath of office to Sinha. Her appointment came following he resignation of BV Wanchoo. Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar and other dignitaries were also present at Raj Bhawan for the event. Following the oath taking ceremony, Sinha also received the guard of honour. Aug 31, 2014

At least 8 dead in road accident in Rajasthan, several injured

Pali, Aug 31 (ANI): At least eight people were dead and several others injured in a road accident in Pali district of Rajasthan on Sunday. The injured have been admitted to a hospital and treatment is going on. The accident took place on the Mandia by-pass near Pali, some 300 km from Jaipur. The bus carried pilgrims from Utharada village in Salumber tehsil of Udaipur district. Environment minister says confidence of investors in India has improved

Jaipur, Aug 31 (ANI): Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar on Sunday said that investors' confidence in the domestic market has improved in wake of lumbering economy registering its fastest growth in two-and-a-half years for the quarter ending in June. Gross domestic product grew a faster-than-expected 5.7 percent year-on-year, a government data showed, sharply higher than a provisional 4.6 percent expansion in the previous three months. The four-day championship was organized by sports council in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir armed police along with different non-government organizations to boost water sports in world famous Dal Lake in Jammu and Kashmir. Participants, hailing from different cities like New Delhi and Punjab, were divided in twelve teams. Girls stole the show by exhibiting their talents in this competition. Pakistan has been gripped by unrest for more than two weeks, with protest leaders Imran Khan and Tahir ul-Qadri saying they will not back back down unless Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif resigns. On Saturday Sharif once again said he would not go. Security forces fired tear gas at protesters on Saturday night and the opposition said a woman was killed in the clashes.
