Kerala Liquor ban: SC to hear bar owners plea on Thursday

New Delhi, Sep 10 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Wednesday told the Kerala Government not to enforce its order to ban non-five-star hotel bars till Thursday, when the apex court will hear several petitions challenging the ban. An apex court bench headed by Justice Anil R. Dave asked the Kerala Government to wait till it ruled on the matter. The state government had passed an order banning the sale of liquor at bars and hotels below the five-star category. The ban was to come into force from September 11. Last month, in a bid to reduce the availability of liquor across the state, the Kerala Cabinet sanctioned the closing of 730 bars. Sep 10, 2014

Udhampur, Sep 10 (ANI): Three terrorists were killed in an encounter that broke out in Keran sector of Kupwara District on Wednesday morning. The encounter operation was launched by the army after they had specific information about their movement in the Keran sector. The identity of the terrorists is not yet known. PRO Defence, S D Goswami said that three militants have been killed in the Kishanganj range near Line of Control. Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has 30 people on the exempt list which begins with the President and goes up to special protection group protectees. The list also includes the Dalai Lama. The only individual listed in that list (on number 31) is Robert Vadra. Massive rescue operations underway as flood situation remains grim in JandK

Srinagar, Sep 10 (ANI): Rising death toll in Kashmir and worst floods in 60 years submerged villages and destroyed crops as the number of dead hit 420 and thousands remained trapped on rooftops. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah had earlier said that paramilitary and defence forces were pressed into service to rescue people stranded on rooftops and flooded residential areas. A tourist affected by floods, Rajat Khanna, said he waded through neck-deep floodwater to reach a safer place. Another tourist who has been stranded due to floods, Mitesh Chugh, said all connections were snapped.
