Delhi government formation: Politicos react after SC supports Jung's effort

New Delhi, Oct 30 (ANI): Politicos reacted on Thursday after Supreme Court termed Lt Governor Najeeb Jung move to talk to all political parties on forming a government in Delhi as 'positive'. BJP leader Satish Upadhyay said that BJP welcomes the decision of the court. He added that after Jung takes a decision, the party will comment accordingly. AAP leader Ashutosh said that SC was right in calling Jung's move as 'positive' but Lt Governor Najeeb Jung should have taken this move much earlier.

Condemning reactions flow over UP Police reply to RTI on Rape

Delhi/ Lucknow, Oct 30 (ANI): Condemning reactions flowed on Thursday over the improper reply given by Uttar Pradesh Police to an RTI filed questioning the reasons for increasing rapes in the state. The police had replied to the RTI saying that improper dressing of women, use of mobiles and internet is responsible for increasing crimes against women. Chairperson of Delhi Commission for Women, Barkha Shukla Singh said that such remarks made by the police officials are condemnable and unacceptable. IPS Officer Amitabh Thakur said that being a police official himself he finds reasons given by the police inappropriate. BSP leader Sudhindra Bhadoria said that the Samajwadi Party government is responsible for such law and order in the state where even police does not take responsibility of increasing crimes.

UP Police hold clothes, mobile, internet responsible for rise in rapes

Meerut, Oct 30 (ANI): In a RTI filed on increasing rapes by an activist in Meerut city of Uttar Pradesh the state Police has held factors like improper dressing, use of mobile phones and internet responsible for such crimes. RTI Activist Lokesh Khurana who had filed the RTI, said that the police giving such improper statements on increasing crime shows its irresponsibility in handling law and order in the state.

BJP leader visits Kolkata to assess damage to his partymen in clashes with TMC

Kolkata/Birbhum, Oct 30 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Vice-President Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi visited West Bengal on Thursday to assess the killing of party workers allegedly by members of the regional Trinamool Congress (TMC) and called the state government a party of militants, mafias and criminals. Naqvi said that TMC should use their efforts in helping the people there, instead of attacking them. Three persons were killed and many severely injured in a clash between the TMC and BJP supporters at Makra village in Birbhum district in West Bengal. Several houses were also burnt down. Reportedly, the clash continued for more than two hours and country-made guns were used.

Concerned dept began work, process time consuming: SIT on Black Money

New Delhi, Oct 30 (ANI): The member of SIT on Black Money, Arijit Pasayat said that the concerned department has begun working and it has now reached the stage of investigation. He said that the investigation involves Income Tax department and added that the report will be submitted by the date given by Supreme Court. Pasayat stated that the process is a time consuming one and the committee will try to do it as soon as possible. On being asked about government's will to reveal names, he said that there was a miscommunication in the case.

Cyclone Nilofar: MeT says rainfall expected, NDRF ready with rescue teams

Ahmedabad, Oct 30 (ANI): As Cyclone Nilofar is about to hit the coast of Gujarat the teams of NDRF have been made ready by the state government. Meanwhile the Director of Ahmedabad Meteorological Department, Manorama Mohanty said that the cyclone is expected to make landfall followed by heavy rainfall for the next 48 hours in the coastal areas of Gujarat. NDRF Inspector Sanjay Kumar said that the teams of NDRF are ready for rescue work and added that they will work as directed by the authorities.

Indians worship Sun god for betterment of family during Chhath Puja

Bihar/ Maharashtra/ Uttar Pradesh/New Delhi, Oct 30 (ANI): Scores of devotees across India, on Thursday (October 30), thronged banks of rivers and other water bodies to celebrate Hindu religious festival, 'Chhath', and prayed to the rising sun. 'Chhath puja', the four day festival, is celebrated after Diwali and holds significance for married women who observe fast and stand in waist-deep river water presenting religious offerings to the Sun god. A resident of Mumbai, Sinta Devi, said that people mark this festival after their wishes get fulfilled. A resident of Varanasi, Parmeshwari Kumar, said that people pray to goddess Chhath and offer fruits during the festival.

British Defence Secretary lays wreath at India Gate war memorial

New Delhi, Oct 30 (ANI): British Defence Secretary Michael Fallon on Thursday laid wreath at India Gate war memorial to commemorate India's contribution in World War I. Michael Fallon arrived in Delhi on a one-day visit to commemorate India's contribution to World War 1, which saw the participation of over 1.1 million Indian soldiers. Fallon during his visit will be meeting Defence Minister Arun Jaitley and reaffirming the UK's defence and security partnership with India. The UK has been working very closely with the United Service Institution of India (USI) on the grand commemoration programme.

Delhi Government formation: SC adjourns hearing till November 11

New Delhi, Oct 30 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Thursday after taking a note of Lt Governor Najeeb Jung's efforts to break the deadlock adjourned hearing on government formation in Delhi till November 11. The apex court terming LG's efforts to call a party meet as a 'positive move' said that that it would wait and watch till the next hearing. German envoy assures help for holy Buddhist shrine in Bodh Gaya

Bodh Gaya, Oct 30 (ANI): German ambassador to India, Michael Steiner, visited Buddhist shrine of Mahabodhi Temple in Bihar and said his country will extend every possible help in preservation of the temple. The ambassador was accompanied by his wife Eliese Steiner while visiting the temple in holy town of Bodh Gaya. Michael said his visit to the temple was fulfilling as he loved the atmosphere there. He added the German government will encourage the formulation of the temple. Bodh Gaya is a religious site and a pilgrimage of Buddhists in Gaya district. Meanwhile, Steiner added that the temple was one of the most important places on earth.

Two Maoists held with ammunition in Jharkhand

Latehar/ Odisha, Oct 30 (ANI): Police arrested two Maoists with ammunition in Latehar district of Jharkhand. Latehar's Superintendent of Police, Michael Raj S, said they attained major success by arresting two notorious Maoists who were involved in several violent activities since 2011. Michael added the arrested Maoists were involved in activities including firing at police, planning a bomb blast on National Highway 75 and others. Meanwhile, a farmer-turned-Maoist activist who surrendered before the police in Odisha on Tuesday (October 28) was produced before the court. Nachika Linga, the chief of a Maoist-backed organisation, remained underground for over four years evading a non-bailable warrant against him. He was in the 'most wanted' list of Odisha police for his alleged involvement in attack on a local police station in 2009.
