New Delhi, Oct 5 (ANI): Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad on Sunday hit out at Congress president Sonia Gandhi for constantly raising questions over the welfare schemes and attempts made by the NDA government for the progress of the nation. He also pointed out that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's government, the petrol prices reduced thrice, and inflation is also going down. Criticizing the programs of Congress, Prasad said that if Gandhi's programs were so good then why Congress faced defeat in the Lok Sabha elections.

Supporters of Jayalalithaa pray for her release in Chennai

Chennai, Oct 05 (ANI): Supporters of regional party All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) on Sunday performed special prayers for the release of former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa, who was pronounced guilty in the disproportionate assets case. In Chennai, AIADMK ministers and legislatures have been protesting every day in various ways to show their displeasure over former chief's arrest. AIADMK councilor, MM Babu said prayers and the wishes of the down trodden of the society will help Jayalalithaa's release. Jayalalithaa was sentenced to four years in jail in the disproportionate assets case by a special court in Bangalore. The court has also fined the party chief Rs 100 crore which will be taken from the properties that have already been seized by the court.

Wives of suspected militants in Burdwan blast case arrested for enquiry

Burdwan/ New Delhi, Oct 05 (ANI): Two women were arrested and remanded to police custody for two weeks in connection with the explosion at Khagragarh area of Burdwan that left two suspected militants dead. Rajira Bibi is the widow of suspected militant Shakil Ahmed, who was killed in the explosion in a house at Khagragarh on October 2, while Amina Bibi is the wife of Hasan Saheb, who was critically injured in the blast and is under treatment at Burdwan Medical College and Hospital. The two suspected militants were killed and another was injured when an explosion occurred in a house inhabited by them on Thursday. According to police officials, large number of watch dials, SIM cards, and other tools required to make improvised explosive devices were found in the house. Owner of the two-storey house, Hasan Chowdhury, who lives in another house across the road, said he had given the first floor to Shakil Ahmed, the deceased, on a monthly rent of Rs 4,700 but he did not know the identity of the two others.

Muslims in Kerala mark Eid-al-Adha with prayers

Kashmir to witness gloomy Eid-al-Adha this year due to floods

Srinagar, Oct 05 (ANI): Jammu and Kashmir is witnessing subdued preparations for Eid this time due to the floods that devastated the state last month, leaving hundreds dead and thousands homeless. There is no rush in the markets or festivity to be seen. The animal traders in Srinagar city say this year they have less to offer for animal sacrifices as most of their livestock perished in the floods. The blockage of transport system due to damage to infrastructure has also marred their business. India would be observing Eid-al-Adha, one of the two most important festivals in the Islamic calendar, on Monday. It marks the end of an annual Haj or pilgrimage to Mecca. A goat-seller, Mohammad Yousuf said that he is unsure about his business as the valley has still not recovered from the floods.

Two TMC leaders brutally murdered in West Bengal's Bankura district

Bankura, Oct 05 (ANI): Two leaders of the Trinamool Congress (TMC) party were brutally murdered early on Sunday morning in Bankura district of West Bengal. Bikash Dutta, 45 and his father Madhu, 65, died after their throats were slit. Bikash Dutta was the president of Trinamool Congress Local Committee in Hatgram within Bankura district's Indpur community. Talking to mediapersons, party leader Subhasis Batabyal said few miscreants whose aim is to break the party and grab power might be the cause behind this brutal killing. Though Bikash was threatened quite often but nobody expected that he would be murdered.

Reactions pour in after Bihar CM blames crowd for Patna stampede

New Delhi, Oct 5 (ANI): Reactions poured in on Sunday after Bihar Chief Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi refuting the charges of incompetence of his government in handling the situation of stampede that occurred in Patna's Gandhi Maidan after Dussehra celebrations were over, blamed the crowd for the incident. BJP leader Subramanian Swamy said that blaming the crowd which was subjected to panic is unreasonable.
