Bangladesh Gonojagoron Mancha protest against political violence throughout the nation

Dhaka, Feb 06 (ANI): Bangladesh Gonojagoron Mancha (people's resurgence platform) took to streets in Dhaka to protest a spate of political violence and militancy in the country. Activists gathered at the Shahbagh area with the Bangladesh flag and chanted slogans against the violence that has gripped the nation since the start of this year. The country has been in the grip of an indefinite transport blockade from January 05 since opposition Bangladesh National Party (BNP) chairperson Khaleda Zia made the announcement after being prevented from holding a rally in the capital. At least 53 have died in attacks in past one month as vehicles are targeted with bombs. On this day in 2013, Gonojagoron Mancha was formed by thousands of protestors to protest the life imprisonment of Jamaat-e-Islami leader Abdul Quader Mollah, who convicted of genocide during 1971 liberation struggle from Pakistan. Climate change providing impetus to child trafficking: Kailash Satyarthi

New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): Nobel laureate and child rights activist Kailash Satyarthi warned that children end up bearing the brunt of natural calamities caused by climate change as families get displaced, they are forced into child labour, prostitution and child trafficking. Satyarthi was speaking at the Delhi Sustainable Development Summit (DSDS) in the national capital. The DSDS, which is a global platform for experts to hammer out goals for 2015 climate talks, aims at discussing sustainable development goals with emphasis on energy and environment and clean energy for all. Thousands of children, mostly from poor rural areas, are taken to the country's cities every year by trafficking gangs who sell them into bonded labour or hire them out to unscrupulous employers, promising to send their parents their wages. Meanwhile, Chairman of UN Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), Rajendra Pachauri said that the job of child rights activists like Satyarthi was only going to get infinitely more difficult with the impact of climate change. India will play key role in Paris summit: French Foreign Minister

New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): India will play a pivotal role in the success of December 2015 Conference of Parties in Paris, said French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius in New Delhi. Fabius met Environment Minister Prakash Javadekar and said that major issues between the two countries needed to be tackled before the conference. Earlier in the day, Fabius attended the annual sustainable development summit and said that a global deal to curb carbon emissions must recognise each country's right to develop. He had said efforts to reach an agreement would fail if any country believed it would hurt their economic prospects. Fabius said he understood "the constraints of India" as it seeks to grow its economy. Asian Development Bank president calls on PM Narendra Modi

New Delhi, Feb 06 (ANI): Asian Development Bank (ADB) President Takehiko Nakao met Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi. Nakao was accompanied with a delegation from the ADB as they discussed matters of mutual interest to India and the ADB, with Modi. After the meet, Modi tweeted a picture of the two leaders shaking hands, reading the caption: "A very productive meeting with Mr. Takehiko Nakao, President of the Asian Development Bank. @ADB_HQ". Meanwhile, the ADB tweeted: "In meeting with @narendramodi, @ADB_HQ Pres Nakao lauds #India's brighter growth prospects". Nakao commended India's efforts to improve business environment and accelerate infrastructure investment. Srinagar, Feb 06 (ANI): Radio has emerged as the ultimate choice of mass media for the people of Jammu and Kashmir in the aftermath of the floods that wrecked havoc in September last year. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley last year. Roads in Srinagar were transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals. When all channels of communication including phone lines and other mass media networks like the state owned television channel Doordarshan were down, it was FM services of state owned station 'Radio Kashmir' which kept the people up to date with the latest happenings and also acted as a platform where their grievances were highlighted.
