Winter Session of Parliament to begin from Nov 24

New Delhi, Nov 22 (ANI): The Winter Session of Parliament begins from November 24 and ends on December 23. It will consist of 22 sittings. There are 67 bills currently pending before the Parliament. Of these, nine bills were introduced in the previous Session of Parliament, while 40 of these were introduced in the 15th Lok Sabha, which was the regime of the UPA II Government. 18 other bills are pending from the earlier Lok Sabhas. The government has promulgated two ordinances in the last few months. These were the Coal Mines (Special Provisions) Ordinance, 2014 and the Textile Undertakings (Nationalisation) Laws (Amendment and Validation) Ordinance, 2014. Bills to replace both these ordinances will have to be brought in this Session of Parliament to ensure that they do not lapse. Nov 22, 2014

Hindu migrants from Pakistan and Afghanistan seek Indian nationality

Bhopal, Nov 22 (ANI): Hundreds of Hindu migrants from Pakistan and Afghanistan who have been living in India for the past several years demanded Indian nationality. The migrants met the district collector in Bhopal city of Madhya Pradesh and requested the officer to take the required initiative to hasten the process of providing them Indian nationality. The migrants said they face problems of religious identity in countries like Pakistan and Afghanistan. Some of them were even forced to discontinue their business. A Pakistani Hindu migrant, Ajit Rajan said over 500 families of Hindu migrants have been living in Madhya Pradesh for years now. Mulayam Singh inaugurates medical college in Rampur

Rampur, Nov 22 (ANI): Samajwadi Party Chief Mulayam Singh Yadav on Saturday inaugurated a medical college in Rampur District of Uttar Pradesh. Singh also distributed cycles to laborers after the inauguration. Senior leader Azam Khan is in charge of the two-day 75th birthday celebrations of the Samajwadi Party chief, which began on Friday in Rampur. Streets of Lucknow, Rampur and Moradabad were decorated for the celebrations. A mega two-day birthday bash, which began with a buggy (horse cart) ride for Mulayam Singh and his son, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav yesterday, has garnered a lot of controversy. Authorities begin dredging drive in River Jhelum in Kashmir

Srinagar, Nov 22 (ANI): The irrigation and flood control department in Jammu and Kashmir started a dredging drive in River Jhelum, which overflowed in September and flooded the region, killing hundreds and marooning villages. Hundreds of people were killed and thousands of villages were devastated by the worst flooding in decades in the Kashmir valley. Roads in Srinagar, Kashmir's main city, were transformed into stagnant canals strewn with wreckage, trash and dead animals. Hospitals were also flooded when the Jhelum River burst its banks and staff scattered around the city were unable to get to work. On Saturday chief engineer of irrigation and flood control department, Javed Jaffar, said that around 35000 cusecs of water also has to be discharged from the river during the dredging drive in order to widen and deepen it by desilting. Fire breaks out in special train of police officers in Siliguri

Siliguri, Nov 22 (ANI): A fire broke out on Saturday in a special train carrying police officers deployed on election duty in Jammu and Kashmir while it was travelling near Siliguri. No casualties have been reported till now, said the police. The train was carrying police officers on election duty to Jammu and Kashmir. The fire that suddenly broke in one of the general compartments was brought under control with the help of two fire engines. Railway officers rushed to the spot to investigate the cause of the fire.
