Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday opened their two-day informal talks in the central Chinese city of Wuhan. Modi arrived at the Hubei Provincial Museum at around 3.30 p.m. and warmly shook Xi's hand for 30 seconds. Both leaders were to take a tour of the site for around an hour. Xi and Modi will hold another meeting at 6 p.m. with delegations from both sides being present. This will be followed by a dinner hosted by the Chinese President.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on early Friday arrived in the Chinese city of Wuhan for a two-day informal summit with President Xi Jinping. The two leaders will have several rounds of talks during the two-day summit. Modi and Xi will visit the Hubei Provincial Museum and have a one-on-one talk there. There will also be a meeting of delegations comprising one plus six on each side the same day. Besides, they will also have a boat ride and walk by the East Lake. The dinner will be at the guest house by the lake. They are scheduled to have more talks on Saturday.

PM Narendra Modi arrives on two-day visit to China

Thirteen school children were killed and six others seriously injured on Thursday when a train hit their van at an unmanned railway crossing in Uttar Pradesh's Kushinagar. The incident took place at the Dudhi Behpurva gate at 7.10 a.m. when the children were headed to the Divine Public School. The injured were rushed to Pandrauna Hospital, which is 30 km from the accident site. The train was on its way to Gorakhpur from Siwan.

Janata Dal-Secular (JD-S) state President H.D. Kumaraswamy were among those who filed their nominations on Friday for the May 12 Assembly elections, taking the total nominations so far to 708. In his poll affidavit, Kumaraswamy, the state Chief Minister between 2006-07, declared assets valued at over Rs 167.12 crore, including those of his wife Anitha. He declared cash and bank deposits of over Rs 7.80 crore and immovable assets valued at over Rs 35 crore. The JD-S leader's wife's declared assets including cash, gold and bank deposits valued at over Rs 94 crore, and immovable assets worth Rs 30 crore.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Friday filed his nomination to contest the ensuing state Legislative Assembly elections from Chamundeshwari constituency in Mysuru on Friday. Siddaramaiah, along with his son Yathindra, visited the Chamundeshwari temple in Mysuru to pray to goddess Durga before filing his nomination. The 69-year-old veteran leader contested from Chamundeshwari seat seven times since 1983 and won five times. He later shifted his constituency to Varuna in Mysuru district, from where he was elected twice since 2008, including the last assembly polls in 2013.

Tamil Nadu Deputy Chief Minister O. Panneerselvam on Thursday met N.K. Singh, Chairman of the 15th Finance Commission, in New Delhi and put across the state's views on the latter's Terms of Reference (ToR), an official said. The Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds the Finance portfolio, led a delegation of 40 parliamentarians from the AIADMK, including Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker M. Thambi Durai. He also handed over a memorandum signed by Chief Minister K. Palaniswami. The state government's major concern is the use of 2011 census data by the 15th Finance Commission, which is disadvantageous for Tamil Nadu when it comes to allocation of funds by the central government.
