The south Asian nation claimed their third ICC tournament, having earlier won the 50-over World Cup in 1992 and the World Twenty20 in 2009. Put in to bat, Pakistan rode on a century by opener Fakhar Zaman to post a massive total of 338/4 in the allotted 50 overs. In reply, India were all out for 158 runs in 30.3 overs. For Pakistan, pacers Mohammad Amir and Hasan Ali bagged three wickets each. This was the biggest margin of victory in any ICC ODI tournament in terms of runs. The previous highest was registered by Australia when they thrashed India by 125 runs in the 2003 World Cup final in Johannesburg. Pakistan pacer Hasan Ali finished as the highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 13 scalps. The right-armer was also adjudged as the player of the tournament. Ali is also the first bowler to take four successive three-wicket hauls in the Champions Trophy. All-rounder Hardik Pandya was the highest scorer among the Indians with 76 runs from 43 balls.

Chasing 265 to win after electing to field first, the defending champions did not flinch for one moment as Rohit Sharma scored his 11th career ton (123 not out) and captain Virat Kohli notched up his 42nd fifty (96 not out) to stitch up an unbeaten 178-run partnership for the second wicket. India won the match with 59 balls to spare. While Sharma's innings was laced with 15 fours and one six, Kohli smashed 13 boundaries. Kohli, in the process, became the fastest cricketer in the world to reach 8,000 runs in ODIs in just 175 innings. Openers Shikhar Dhawan and Sharma were off to a rollicking start in the first six overs.

Chasing a below-par 212, the Green Brigade rode on a brilliant 118-run opening stand between Azhar Ali (76) and Fakhar Zaman (57) before Babar Azam (38 not out) and Ali helped the team with a 55-run second-wicket stand to set their date with the winner of the second semi-final between India and Bangladesh, on Sunday. After bowling the hosts out for 211, thanks to pacer Hasan Ali's 3/35, the Pakistani opening duo of Ali and Zaman made light work of the English bowlers as the visitors crossed the 50-run mark at the end of the mandatory powerplay. The 27-year-old Zaman was the more destructive of the two, bringing up his second consecutive fifty off 49 balls, laced with six boundaries and a six off a bouncer from pacer Mark Wood in the very first over of the innings.

ICC Champions Trophy: India overwhelm South Africa to enter semi-final

India's confidence must be sky high having registered a massive 124-run win over arch-foes Pakistan and the win has kind of set the tempo for the rest of the tournament. Sri Lanka have to considerably improvise on their batting after being all out at 203 runs against South Africa, allowing the Proteas a 96-run victory. India will look to demolishing the opponents with their formidable batting line-up with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Shikhar Dhawan, Virat Kohli, Yuvraj Singh and Hardik Pandya who made their mark with the bat in the opening game against Pakistan. The spin and pace bowling combination for India has only helped them become a lethal all-round side though fielding has been a matter of concern -- as pointed out by skipper Kohli -- and which the team will look to overcome against the Lankans. India boast an array of seamers -- Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Umesh Yadav, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik -- who can be lethal in these helpful English conditions.

Defending champion India put up an all-round show to drub arch-rivals Pakistan by 124 runs via Duckworth-Lewis (DL) method in a rain-marred Group B encounter of the Champions Trophy here on Sunday. Asked to bat, the Indians rode on a power-packed performance by the top order to post a challenging total of 319/3 in an innings affected by rain twice -- and consequently shortened to 48 overs. Further rain interruptions forced the match officials to revise the target to 289 runs off 41 overs according to the DL method. The Pakistanis were off to a steady start thanks to openers Azhar Ali and Ahmed Shehzad, who put together an opening stand of 47 runs in nine overs before pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar struck the first blow for India by trapping the latter leg before.
