OnePlus 6 DxOMark Mobile score: Finally, a respectable camera fans have been craving for

It's been more than two months since OnePlus 6 made its global debut in London and since its launch, many fans and tech critics have been raving about the how good the phone's performance in terms of speed and also a camera, but nobody knew for sure how it matched against rival brands in the market.

Actually, most people were eager to know what the DxOMark Mobile, world-renowned camera experts have to say on OnePlus 6. Because, despite the tall claims by OnePlus over its collaboration with the former, the OnePlus 5's camera in 2017, to be honest, was a dud. This time, its successor is different and now, we have the proof.

DxOMark Mobile has released the OnePlus 6 score-sheet and it has scored a respectable 96 points, beating Apple iPhone 8 Plus and Samsung Galaxy Note8.

OnePlus 6 is also one shy of Apple iPhone X (97) score, but nevertheless, it is worth the price (starting Rs 34,999 in India) it commands.

Further delving deeper into the DxOMark Mobile score sheet, OnePlus 6 has scored 87 on video recording and for still photos, it has scored 100.

It can be noted that the camera rating agency has a complex points system with no threshold for the benchmark, which sometimes leads to awarding phones more than 100 points for a particular category. But, it has a global recognition, which we can vouch for (the scores).

In the 'Pros' section, DxOMark Mobile lists several good aspects of OnePlus 6, which includes fast and accurate autofocus, efficient stabilisation, neutral white balance, details preserved in high-contrast scenes, flash exposure & preservation of colour under various light conditions are good and also subject exposure is praiseworthy.

It also found grievances in OnePlus 6 camera including fine details in the photos and videos sometimes tend to get lost in the darkest & brightest light condition, the pink cast is often visible in outdoors, strong ringing and over-sharpening in the videos, along with occasional blur inaccuracies in the photos.

Now the DxOMark Mobile scores are out, several prospective consumers who were sitting on the fence whether to buy the OnePlus 6 or not, can now finally make a move to buy the device with certainty.

It can be noted OnePlus just released OxygenOS 5.1.9 incremental update with several camera improvements, including beauty mode for Selfie Portrait and Google Lens integration to the OnePlus 6.

What's so special about Google Lens?

The Google Lens is one of the most advanced camera applications in the smartphone industry. It can turn a sombre photo session on an Android phone (running v6.0 Marshmallow and later OS) into a lively infotainment session.

With machine-learning algorithm incorporated into the Google Lens, it is intuitive enough to perceive what pictures the phone user is recording and provide information of the subject matter such as an old forgotten celebrity, a locale or a music album cover in the photo. Google Lens literally turns your Android phone into a visual search engine.

For example, if a person taking a snap (via the Google Photo app) of a restaurant and tap the Google Lens option, it will automatically connect to the Google Search function and give the hotel's timings, menu cards, reviews and table-booking options.

If the menu card is in a foreign language, Google Lens can also translate it into English or your mother tongue (select global languages).

Another notable aspect of the Google Lens is its capability to perceive information within a photo and accurately carry out the function. For an instance, the owner can connect his or her phone to a Wi-Fi network just by snapping a photo of a sticker (with security barcode) on the internet router.

Google Lens is intelligent enough to identify that it is looking at a Wi-Fi network's name and password, then it offers the user the option to tap a button and connect automatically.
