Mohanlal's Odiyan has concluded the first weekend with a brilliant collection at the worldwide box office with its business going fast Rs 50 crore gross mark in the global market in three days.

Several aspects had generated a massive amount of expectations and curiosity about Odiyan, before it hit the screens. The hype surrounding it made its theatrical rights sell at record prices and the distributors made grand arrangements for release in a bid to cash in on the craze. The hysteria translated into very good advance booking for its opening week.

The VA Shrikumar Menon-directed fantasy thriller witnessed an earth-shattering response with many cinema halls witnessing 100 percent occupancy on Friday. Odiyan collected Rs 26.27 crore gross at the worldwide box office on the first day. The movie became the biggest opener for superstar Mohanlal, beating all his previous records. The film also emerged as the bigger Mollywood opener of all time.

But Odiyan received mixed talk from cine-goers and trade analysts predicted that the word of mouth might affect its collection over the weekend, but the movie remained rock-steady. As is the trend, the film witnessed over 50 percent dip in its collection on Saturday. However, with Sunday being a holiday, it went on to show a decent growth in its business.

The makers are yet to reveal its actual numbers. If we are to go by early estimates, Odiyan has collected over Rs 25 crore on Saturday and Sunday together. With this, its first weekend total has reached Rs 51.27 crore gross. This is the highest ever opening weekend number for a film in the history of Malayalam cinema.

Made on a budget of over Rs 50 crore, Odiyan reportedly earned over Rs 35 crore from the sale of its worldwide theatrical rights. The movie is estimated to have earned Rs 20.50 crore for its global distributors in the first weekend. The film has recovered nearly 60 percent of their investments in three days.
