TMC blames government for blast in West Bengal

Kolkata, Oct 12 (ANI): Trinamool Congress (TMC) party blamed the Central government for the blast in West Bengal, saying the intrusion of members of extremist groups into the state led to the incident. Two suspected militants were killed and one sustained injuries in an explosion at a TMC leader's house in Burdwan district on October 2. TMC leader Partha Chatterjee said that the Central government is not serious and competent enough to depute border guards and that is why illegal migrants are intruding into West Bengal. He also said the wing of ruling BJP and Communist Party of India-Marxist (CPI-M) are disrupting the peaceful situation in the state to reap political benefits. Meanwhile, National Investigation Agency (NIA) is also assisting the state police in the case.

America lobbying to be India s best friend: Indian American on Modi s US visit

New York, Sep 27 (ANI): Indian American Hotelier Sant Singh Chatwal said that America was lobbying to be India's best friend now while earlier they used to pay more attention to Pakistan. He applauded Modi's smart move as he visited Japan and Brazil and met with the Chinese Premier in India before coming to US. Chatwal also said that the Prime Minister Narendra Modi led NDA government exudes confidence as it came to power with absolute majority. He also said that Indian American, he and other community is expecting good relations between India and US so that the country becomes investment friendly.

JandK Floods: Safe victims share traumatic experience

Mumbai/ Srinagar, Sept 13 (ANI): In their moment of rejoice, the victims who after undergoing the nightmare of being stranded in the Kashmir floods, returned to the safety and embrace of their loved ones in Mumbai. Nearly 200 people have been reportedly killed and thousands have been left stranded or homeless in one of the devastating floods that hit Jammu and Kashmir. People shared their traumatic experience in the floods. Some said that the situation was rather grim whereas others were of the view that besides the army, the locals were also very supportive to the stranded flood victims. On his return, one of the victims Vikas Agrawal, attributed his safe return to the selfless help by a local travel agent. The Chatrapati Shivaji International Airport in Mumbai witnessed poignant and emotional moments as anxious people saw their friends and family return after experiencing a natural disaster that has shaken up the entire nation.

Muslims participate in Ganesh Chaturthi celebrations with great enthusiasm in Kanpur

Kanpur, Sep 09 (ANI): Kanpur situated in the northern part of Uttar Pradesh is a city known for religious importance. People from different religious faiths live here with amity and brotherhood. Devotees bid adieu to Lord Ganesha

Mumbai/Pune, Sep 08 (ANI): Thousands of devotees in Mumbai on Monday bid farewell to Lord Ganesha, as they thronged to immerse the idol after completion of the 10-day festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Mumbai witnessed a beeline of devotees with huge idols of Ganesha walking across streets or on trucks and other vehicles. Security measures were beefed up across the state as thousands of devotees took to streets to bid a colourful farewell to Ganesha. Ganesha is regarded and worshipped as an index of knowledge and also the harbinger of auspicious tidings. The annual festival of Ganesha Chaturthi usually falls between August and September.

Bollywood stars dazzle cultural festival on Ganesh Chaturthi in Pune

Pune, Sep 06 (ANI): A cultural festival in Pune dazzled audience with classical dance performances by Bollywood stars.Veteran Bollywood actress and a noted classical dancer, Hema Malini opened the event with a stunning 'Ganesh Vandana' performance with daughter, Esha Deol, in honour of Lord Ganesha. The performance was a part of the Pune Festival which is held every year during the festive season of Ganesh Chaturthi and has completed 25 successful years last year. Bollywood Actress Gracy Singh, along with her group, also presented a dance performance. Chairman of the Pune Festival Committee, Suresh Kalmadi said that they hoped to turn Pune into a tourist destination.

Fire breaks out at Chatterjee International building in Kolkata

Kolkata, Sep 02 (ANI): Fire broke out on the 15th floor of the landmark Chatterjee International building near Park Street in Kolkata on Tuesday morning. Four fire tenders were rushed to control the situation. Since the fire broke out before the office hours, the police said the possibility of any person being trapped in the building, which houses many private and government offices, is less. The area has been cordoned off to conduct the firefighting operations in the busy area. The cause of fire or extent of damage is yet to be ascertained, the police said.

Devotees in Vadodara prepare gigantic 'Modak' sweet to celebrate Ganesh Chaturthi

Vadodara, Sep 01 (ANI): A group of devotees in Gujarat prepared a gigantic dumpling shaped sweet, Modak, on the occasion of the Hindu festival of Ganesh Chaturthi. Ganesh Chaturthi is a 10-day popular celebration during which it is believed that Lord Ganesha bestows his presence on earth for all his devotees. The group had initiated to create the lord's favourite sweet weighing 800 kilograms for the people of Vadodora city. The sweet was made into five layers each consisting of a different ingredient. The organiser of the sweet making event, Ankur said that a team of seven to eight people prepared the biggest sweet in around 36 hours. Devotees buy decorated and colourful idols of Lord Ganesha and establish them in their homes for 10 days and revel in religious pageantry.

Bangladesh PM says assassins of founding father of the nation to be hanged

Dhaka, Sep 01 (ANI): Bangladesh PM said that the assassins of the founding father of the nation, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and most of his family will be hanged. Addressing a gathering organised by the Bangladesh Chatra (Students') League, the students front of the ruling Awami League party, Hasina said that the trials of the war criminals were in progress. The member students had also organised a rally to mourn the deceased Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. Prime Minister Hasina said that the Bangladeshi's agitation towards the incident cannot be stopped. Hasina, on August16, also alleged that the founder of the opposition, Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP), Ziaur Rahman was involved in the killing of Mujibur.
